Daytime Emmy News – Victoria Graces Loses Emmy Nomination
According to Soap Opera Network, the Daytime Emmy Nomination for “Days Of Our Lives” Star Victoria Grace has been rescinded.
The official list of Emmy nominees for the upcoming 50th Daytime Emmy Awards was announced by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) on Wednesday afternoon.
Grace was included in the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series. Of course, Grace plays Wendy Shin in the series.
However, Grace was disqualified because, according to the rules for this year’s awards, to be eligible for the award the nominee could not be over 18 on January 1, 2022, and Grace turned 21 the year before.
As a result, Grace was removed from the list of nominees leaving only three remaining in the category. Cary Christopher (Thomas Dimera, “Days Of Our Lives”, Eden Mccoy (Josslyn Jacks, “General Hospital”), and Henry Joseph Samiri (Douglas Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful”).
Daytime Emmy News – Victoria Grace Took It Like A Champ
Grace later posted on her Instagram, “I was honored to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy and to be recognized by the Academy.
Unfortunately, there was a huge misunderstanding across the board regarding the rules for this year’s category. This is obviously a surprise and I am heartbroken, but in fairness to all, I‘ll be rescinding my nomination. I wish the best of luck to all the nominees. I will continue to work hard to earn another Daytime Emmy nomination next year!”
Grace appeared in “Days of Our Lives, Beyond Salem Chapter 2” in July 2022 before joining the cast of “Days of Our Lives in October 2022 when she reprised the role and Wendy moved to Salem. “Days of Our Lives” still retains ten nominations and Beyond Salem has three.
According to Soaps In Depth, “For the 2020 Daytime Emmy Awards, the Outstanding Younger Actor and Outstanding Younger Actress categories were merged into the single, gender-neutral Outstanding Younger Performer category.
The age cap for this particular category used to be 25, but was lowered to 21 in 2021 and for this year’s Daytime Emmys, was lowered further to 18.”
Daytime Emmy News – Accidents Happen
Although Grace didn’t go into details about the previously mentioned misunderstanding, obviously this error was not only missed by “Days of Our Lives” executives but the Academy of Television Arts and Science didn’t notice the age issue either.
The 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air Live on June 16, 2023, at 9 pm ET/ and delayed PT. It will also be available for streaming live and On Demand on Paramount. The ceremony this year will be held at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles.
