Much has been made about Days of Our Lives’s The Pawn over recent weeks that’s who John Black was when he first arrived in Salem. When Steve Johnson first arrived around the same time, he was known only as ‘Patch’ but how did he get the eyepatch he still wears today?

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Steve Johnson’s Fateful Knife Fight

When Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) were in the Merchant Marines together more than four decades ago they both fell for a woman named Britta Englund (Amy Stock).

Britta was Bo’s girl first but when Bo caught her in bed with Steve one night in Stockholm, Sweden all hell broke loose.

Bo and Steve ended up in a knife fight in which Steve lost his eye at Bo’s hands. The two men parted ways as enemies and Steve showed up in Salem several years later with a patch over his eye and a chip on his shoulder.

Steve was even the one who helped bring a bandaged John (Drake Hogestyn) to town when he was known as The Pawn.

He was working for Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) at the time and was an outlaw, but when he met Bo’s sister Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans), all of that changed and Steve became a reformed man and a good citizen.

DOOL Spoilers – More Eye Incidents For Steve

Through the years, Steve even managed to get rid of that patch a few times. In the early 1990s, he was offered a glass eye as part of an undercover ISA operation but eventually, he lost that eye and ended up wearing an eye patch again.

During the last decade, Steve lost his eye two more times. First, he was given a bionic eye when he seemed to be losing his eyesight, but that ended up causing some international trouble when the eye saw secrets that it should not have.

Not long after, Steve was once again given a glass eye when Dr. Wilhelm Rolf kidnapped him and turned him into the Essence of Stefano DiMera, aka Stevano.

However, he lost that eye when Anna DiMera (Leann Hunley) tossed her stiletto heel in his direction, a very Days of Our Lives thing to do.
