Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – John De Lancie Honors Arleen Sorkin

As John de Lancie looks back on his career, he views his most joyful memories as the ones shared with his leading lady Arleen Sorkin on Days Of Our Lives.

And as the actor mourned Sorkin’s death at age 67, de Lancie also shared that he wanted to honor their partnership. “I never had more fun acting than with Arleen on Days of Our Lives,” the actor told TVLine.

And John revealed that for the past four decades, Days Of Our Lives fans have often told him “how much they enjoyed the two of us [as] Calliope and Eugene. We were a team and we laughed. We laughed a lot. I will miss her always.”

Earning the description of “TV’s zaniest couple,” Eugene and Calliope became fan faves for their comedy. And de Lancie admitted, “I think we were very lucky to have been able to pull off the antics that we did.” However, he revealed that at first, Days Of Our Lives offered him just a “one-week stint. They wanted a psychopath,” he recalled. “But, after looking at the show, I came to the conclusion that they needed a comedian.”

And then Arleen came into John’s life. As a result of their partnership, de Lancie feels that the two felt like “a match made in heaven. We had the best of times.” And as he looks back at all his acting successes, the actor views the best stories as “the ones from Days with Arleen.”

DOOL Spoilers – John De Lancie Shares Salem Memories

One of de Lancie’s favorite acting memories included arriving on set. “And the producers were standing there waiting for us with a message: ‘Roman is dead today. And it’s not funny!’”

But he also recalled the 1984 plane crash storyline. “For some inexplicable reason, everyone from Salem was on that plane. And everyone was acting at a level of soap opera hysteria rarely seen in the real world. But, in the actor’s defense, two weeks of ‘we’re crashing, we crashing’ is a bit over the top,” pointed out the actor.

However, one day, John looked at Arleen, grinned, and called out, “We’re crashing, we’re crashing. Put your head between your legs!” But Arleen then winked at him and moved out of the frame. And the Days Of Our Lives star added, “Between your own legs, Calliope!”

That humor turned into a meeting with then-NBC boss Brandon Tarticoff. And he told the two, “You guys are very funny but you’re killing me. De Lancie, when you first came on the show, we had one blue-haired censor who showed up once a week. Now, with Arleen, we have two censors on all your scenes and you’re still getting stuff out there. You’re not doing daytime, you’re not doing prime time, you’re doing a 2:30 in the morning blue time. It’s got to stop!”
