Ryan Gosling Admits He’s A Fan Of Days Of Our Lives – Praises Deidre Hall’s Work

During his global press tour for Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling took the time to sing the praises of both Days of Our Lives and Deidre Hall in an interview. Read more below.

Television Was Ryan Gosling’s Best Friend

Gosling was the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast promoting his latest box office smash when he talked about his childhood.

The actor shared with host Josh Horowitz that television was his “best friend” growing up. He stated, “I used to pretend to be sick, so I could stay home and watch Regis and Kelly.I loved Regis and Kelly, and I loved Days of Our Lives.”

Gosling then talked about his admiration for those who work in the soap industry, noting that DOOL, as well as the rest of daytime drama actors in general, don’t get the love and respect they deserve.

Goslin brings up how many pages of script they need to memorize the night before they film. He also points out that soap actors do it all in one take and have ‘impossible’ storylines they have to act out to boot.

Marlena Evans’ Infamous Arc

Gosling talks about Marlena Evans, played by Deidre Hall, as an example of said ‘impossible’ storylines that some soap actors have to play. Almost everyone remembers the mid-90s arc where Marlena was possessed by the devil.

Goslin states, “So she, Deidre Hall, has to suddenly — after playing, you know, a normal person, then she’s gotta have this [sudden shift in her character].”

He adds, “Or it’s like somebody’s dead and now they’re back [or] they’re a different actor, and they come out of the shower, you know — that was Bo, by the way, [with] Bo and Hope, he came out as a new Bo.”

(Goslin is referring to when OG Bo, played by Peter Reckell, returned in 1995, replacing his recast of Robert Kelker-Kelly, at the time).

The Best Acting Class Ever!

Gosling then notes, “I have to say, it was an incredible acting class. I loved it. What’s amazing is, I remember that, thinking like, ‘God, Deidre Hall is a great actress because she’s having to act possessed right now! That just seems like a lot to ask of her.’”

Interestingly enough, Goslin gets a bit soapy in his Project Hail Mary, an adaptation of the best-selling sci-fi thriller. He plays Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher who finds himself aboard an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there.
