Why Days Of Our Lives Needs To Bring Cady McClain Back

Days of Our Lives and Cady McClain made us fall in love with the actress’s portrayal of Jennifer Horton, a character who had been brought to life by Melissa Reeves since the 1980s.

But Reeves decided not to return to the set when Days of Our Lives resumed filming after the coronavirus hiatus and veteran soap actress and Daytime Emmy winner Cady McClain took over the role.

During McClain’s time as Jennifer, she learned Jack had a one-night stand with Kate (Lauren Koslow) while she spent a year in a coma. It took Jennifer a while to forgive Jack (Matthew Ashford) and realize he did what he did because he was lonely and hurting and not sure if she’d ever wake again.

When Jennifer finally took Jack back, she learned he had a child neither of them ever heard of via a one-night stand he had before ever meeting Jennifer. That child turned out to be Gwen (Emily O’Brien). After Laura (Jaime Lyn Bauer) told the story of how she knew Gwen existed and always kept it a secret, Gwen accidentally hit Laura on the head and this original Days of Our Lives character died. Jennifer then went off to take care of her mother’s estate out of town and is not back yet.

Days Of Our Lives – What Gives, Days of Our Lives?

It makes no sense that Jennifer would stay away for this long just to clear up some estate matters. She’d want to be with Jack and Abby (Marci Miller). And McClain just shined in the role and gave Jennifer a maturity we’d never seen in her before, without taking away her spunky sweetness.

Plus, Jack is now growing closer to Gwen and seems a bit obsessed with making things up to her, something that can bring tension to Jennifer and Jack if Jennifer were actually in Salem. An MIA Jennifer doesn’t add to this story and makes us feel that something and someone is missing because something and someone is.

Jennifer is a necessary Salem character and needs to return ASAP for things to make sense in Salem. Jack needs his wife back, Abby needs her mother, and Days of Our Lives needs this legacy character now. Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives weekdays to see if Jennifer ever makes her return.
