Soap opera recasts are a dicey proposition. Soap fans are loyal to a fault and it’s hard to predict who they will accept and who they reject as recast characters. Everyone has an opinion, and there is no right or wrong here, just personal preference based on a myriad of factors.
With that in mind, let’s take a look back at some of the biggest daytime recasts of 2024, in no particular order, and give you the opportunity to share your opinion on these changes!
Rebecca Budig As Taylor Hayes, The Bold And The Beautiful
Our first glimpse of NuTaylor was a shot of her back, as she watched Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) canoodle in Monte Carlo.
On B&B All My Children alum Rebecca Budig has recreated the role of Taylor Hayes. Most of the early criticism centered on her age, with fans remarking that she is too young to play Steffy Forrester’s (Jaqueline MacInnes Wood) mom. What do you think?
Adam J. Harrington As Agent John “Jagger” Cates, General Hospital
Jagger has come and gone on GH, but not without a lot of fan commentary on this recast. Harrington replaced Antonio Sabato Jr. in the role that was last onscreen in the ’90s, and a lot had changed in that time period.
For starters, some fans took exception to Jagger no longer being played by a Latin actor, and Sabato had a comment or two to say as well.
Jagger came back to town as an FBI agent with a vendetta against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) who shot him dead in cold blood. Jagger was also a first class himbo, sleeping with anyone he thought could advance his shady agenda.
Crew Morrow As Will Spencer, The Bold And The Beautiful
Crew Morrow was cast as a SORAS’d Will Spencer and it’s easy to see the resemblance between him and his father Joshua Morrow who has spent 20 years playing Nick Newman on B&B’s sister soap The Young and the Restless.
The recast has not encountered much controversy and we predict that he has a long future on the show if he wishes to stay as a legacy character.
Van Hansis As Lucas Jones, General Hospital
This year Van Hansis joined the canvas as a recast Dr. Lucas Jones. He encountered weighty material from the get-go and hasn’t been hesitant to emote accordingly. What do you think of Van Hansis’s rendition of this legacy character?
Braedyn Bruner As Emma Drake, General Hospital
Braedyn Bruner was recast at the end of 2024 as Emma Drake. Sometimes a recast incorporates the characteristics of the previous actor’s take on a character, but that isn’t the case with Bruner.
Her version of Emma is edgier than Brooklyn Rae Silzer’s and we foresee the character going in a different direction based on early indications.
Alexa Havins As Lulu Spencer, General Hospital
Alexis Havins replaced Emme Rylan as plucky Lulu Spencer. So far some fans have taken exception to the way Lulu jumped into the mix after a four year coma and kidney transplant, but if that’s the only quibble then Havins must be doing something right?
Now it’s your turn soap fans, which 2024 daytime recast is your favorite, and which leaves you lukewarm?
