Denise Richards – Takes On Trophy Wife Role In New Series

At 52, Denise Richards has starred in a reality TV show (Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills), a soap opera (The Bold And The Beautiful), and a Bond movie. But the upcoming series Paper Empire gave Denise the chance to explore “something very fun and challenging and very different,” she shared. The show follows a financier, Laurence Fintch (Robert Davi), who ends up in jail. But Fintch doesn’t intend to let his multi-million-dollar cryptocurrency fraud keep him behind bars. And so he creates a plan to get away, reported Variety.

The Bold And The Beautiful star worked with Wesley Snipes, Kelsey Grammer and Danny Glover on the series. And Denise admitted that she took on the project without ever seeing the full script. “I was given scenes with my character, that’s it. Which is the first time that’s ever happened to me,” noted Richards.

However, the actress used that as an opportunity to challenge herself. “I thought it might be interesting and challenging to do a project where I don’t know what’s happening,” she explained. “Because sometimes in life, we really don’t know what’s going to happen. And so I just took every scene that I was ever given and based everything off of that.” But Denise refused to portray a “cliche trophy wife. I wanted to try to bring some depth, as much as I could, to my character.”

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Star Looks Back At Bond Girl Role

However, Richards also reflected on her time in the James Bond universe. Starring with Pierce Brosnan in the 1999 Bond movie “The World is Not Enough,” Denise faced ridicule for her revealing attire in her role as a scientist. “It broke my heart that people were making fun of me,” she admitted.

And the Bold And The Beautiful star felt that she couldn’t win in that role. Because she played a traditional Bond girl, fans expected revealing attire. But because her character was a nuclear scientist, Denise also remembers comments mocking her. For example, some questioned, “Oh, really? You’re wearing shorts and you’re a nuclear scientist?” However, if she had worn a cover-up lab coat, fans “would have been upset, like, ‘Okay, why isn’t she looking like a sexy Bond girl?’”

However, Richards does believe in the tradition of men taking on the lead role in Bond movies. “Definitely a male Bond, I’m sorry,” said Denise. “And I might get a lot of flack for this. But the fact of the matter is the Bond franchise was based off of a book franchise,” she pointed out. “And Bond was male in the books and I believe [they should] continue with that.”
