Fans Call Disney’s New Snow White Too Woke

I’m not going to lie, if I had a least favorite Disney princess – and I do – it would be Snow White. Even as a young girl I felt it was a representation of everything society wanted us to be.

Marriage over any kind of ambition. Mind you, Snow White was a princess whose kingdom was usurped from her and whose people were likely suffering under a reign of tyranny. And yet all she could find to sing about in the dwarves cottage was of her dream prince.

This man who would come to take her away to a fairytale land because she was too weak and too arrow-minded to want anything else, or even do anything for herself. So basically she was a princess who lost her kingdom, but doesn’t care too much because she’d rather have a man.

Disney now has a chance to rewrite history and society thinks it’s too woke. Wake me up when we’re not in the ’70s anymore.

Why Are Fans Mad At Disney’s Snow White?

It didn’t take many days after Disney dropped its Snow White trailer for it to gain over 700k dislikes to 25k like. The comments section didn’t help either, with one ranting, “At this point, the monetization of this video is gonna earn Disney more revenue than the movie itself will.”

If you’re mad about Disney making the dwarves CGI, I feel your pain. If you’re mad that Gal Gadot is prettier than Rachel Zegler, then you might need a doctor. Why?

Because nobody ever said the Queen was not beautiful, and what is the one thing that defeats beauty? Age.

The Queen was older, and thus had to give way to a new generation – something she clearly wasn’t mentally able to do, hence the need to commit murder to preserve her status.

If you think Zegler’s too woke and the movie should be cancelled for that reason and that reason alone, then you may need to consider that you’re too woke yourself.

If you’re angry that they didn’t stick to the traditional storyline, I say why should they?

In the trailer, we’re introduced to a complicated storyline that’s more than just about the Dwarves and their funny antics.

We’re introduced to a more nuanced Queen, whose evil is more deeply explored. And best of all, to a Princess who is not afraid of throwing a punch back.

There’s the apple still, and the Prince may have been switched with a commoner. The trailer also shows us an interaction between the Queen and Snow White, something that was never explored in the animated version.
