What You Should Know Before You See Disney’s Live-Action Adaptation Of ‘Snow White’

What You Should Know Before You Hit The Theaters To Watch Disney's Live-Action Adaptation Of 'Snow White'There’s magic in every one of us, or so Disney wants to make us believe. For years, the studio has been behind some of our favorite animated movies, from Dumbo – remember him?

The elephant with the big ears – to Lady and the Tramp – who could possibly forget those two – and of course, their iconic princesses.

In recent times, Disney has devoted more time and energy to bringing these magical stories, and the songs that accompany them, alive on the big screen as live-action adaptations.

Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty – *cough cough Maleficent – The Little Mermaid, Aladdin – or should we say Princess Jasmine – Mulan, and now, Snow White.

Moana live-action is reportedly in the works, and I heard something about the Princess and the Frog. Is that still a thing?

Anyway, with the amount of criticisms and media storm that ‘Snow White’ has faced and well, the film hitting theaters this week, should you really get your butt on a couch and a popcorn bucket in your hand and enjoy the movie?

Are you betraying whatever political, religious, and racial notions you have by enjoying something as innocent as a child’s movie adapted for the big screen?

Well, I don’t particularly think so. I’m actually a big fan of Disney tweaking the storyline to make Snow White more than just this character who didn’t think twice about the kingdom she abandoned to sing about true love in the Dwarfs’ tent. I feel like it’s peddling the motion that marriage is all a woman needs to be happy. Say whatever you want to say – and I’m not against marriage, mind you – but a girl needs to dream as big as she dares, or even beyond that.

“The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so,” Zegler said. “There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird. So we didn’t do that this time. We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because, like, we cast a guy in the movie…But it’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful.”

‘Snow White’ shouldn’t be a love story for it to be loved. We could go for the songs. We could go for the fairytale. We could go for the chance to escape our little world for some time. I would go for Rachel Zegler, and if you ask Discussing Film, her performance in the movie was truly a worthy and notable one.
