CBS Network To Host 2021 Daytime Emmys

Daytime Emmys Daytime soap viewers rejoice as the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards is set to air on CBS on Friday, June 25 at 8 p.m. The network and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) inked a two-year deal for CBS to host the show in 2021 and 2022.

CBS Hosts The Daytime Emmys For The 15th Time

Hosting the Daytime Emmys this year is an amazing feat for the network since marks the 15th time it’ll be the host of the special event, more than any other network. Aside from the Daytime Emmys, CBS will also host the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. It’s the first time since 2005 that CBS hosted both shows. The last time both specials were aired on a single network was on ABC back in 2008. Both shows will stream live and on-demand on Paramount Plus.

CBS – 2020 Remote Ceremony

CBS network aired last year’s Daytime Emmys and was hosted by Eve, Sheryl Underwood, Sharon Osbourne, Marie Osmond, and Carrie Ann Inaba. The show was done virtually after the plan for an in-person ceremony was ditched due to the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to last year’s airing, the ceremony was aired online after it last appeared on the Pop TV cable network in 2015. After that, the show was streamed online via platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and KNEKT-TV.

CBS – It’ll Still Be A Virtual Event

With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, the 2021 Daytime Emmys will be a virtual event. The same plan applies to Sports Emmy Awards, the News and Documentary Emmys, as well as the Technology and Engineering Emmys.

Adam Sharp, NATAS President, and CEO, explained that holding a remote ceremony this year will help them to be “best-positioned to return to a full, on-time, traditional schedule of in-person ceremonies in 2022.”

There are more than 3,100 submissions for this year’s Daytime Emmys and the nominees as well as the winners will be determined by TV industry experts. This year’s event will be produced by Associated Television International (ATI) and NATAS with executive producers, Adam Sharp and Steve Ulrich from NATAS along with David McKenzie as ATI director and executive producer.

Both organizations also announced in November that the children’s programming categories will be moved from the Primetime Emmys to the Daytime Emmys this year. The awards will be presented to programs that air between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m, including talk shows, game shows, soaps, streaming content, and children’s TV programs.
