Daniel Goddard Talks Current Run With General Hospital & How His Y&R Role Didn’t Amount To Much

Daniel Goddard Talks Current Run With General Hospital & How His Y&R Role Didn’t Amount To MuchGeneral Hospital (GH) spoilers indicate that Daniel Goddard recently made an explosive debut as the mysterious, and a tad creepy, Port Charles University professor, Henry “Hank” Dalton.

The soap star recently caught up with Women’s World magazine to talk about his current run on the ABC soap, as well as his past stint on The Young and the Restless (Y&R), as Cane Ashby.

Getting His Feet Wet In The Land Of Daytime Drama Again

Exiting the Y&R in late 2019, it’s been a hot minute since Goddard has been in the soap opera loop.

He scored his GH role when he was given an opportunity to read for another part, the role of Jack Brennan, earlier this year, after Charles Mesure decided to step away from the character and the ABC soap.

As fans know, Chris McKenna ultimately scored the recast job. This had Goddard feeling down in the dumps initially.

After all, he had been with the Y&R as Cane for 12 years, but after getting the rejection, which meant he was back to square one with auditioning, he felt as if his time on the CBS soap, “… amounted to nothing.”

With that said, despite feeling as if he had failed, it turns out that his read wasn’t all that bad, as he got called back by GH’s Executive Producer, Frank Valentini, wanting him for a new role in the show, and the rest is history. Goddard admits, “I’ve never gotten an offer for anything!” Adding, “I’ve had to fight an uphill battle for every acting role I’ve ever gotten.”

The Differences Between The Soaps

Goddard tells Women’s World that this new role on GH feels like a bit of a “do-over” for him and goes on to talk about the differences between the two daytime dramas.

One big one is that the Y&R gives its actors/actresses the entire script, which includes what other characters are saying, while GH only gives pages that each actor/actress is involved in.

In addition, when with The Young and the Restless, Goddard would read scripts four weeks ahead, so he knew the direction his character was going; however, that’s not the case now.

Fun fact, Goddard has also seen Tristan Rogers (Roger Scorpio) and Genie Francis (Laura Collins) backstage, who also played once played his onscreen Y&R parents, Colin and Genevieve Atkinson.
