Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Gregory Zarian who recurred as Julian, a friend of Kate Howard’s (Megan Ward) on General Hospital, talked about fear. Plus, Gregory opened up on the State of Mind podcast about being an alcoholic. Read on to find out how he copes with that.
Gregory & Maurice Bonded
Ahead of the podcast, Maurice told his ABC fans that he enjoyed chatting with Gregory because they talked about their dads. Additionally, they share a common background in acting. Notably, the two men both shared time in front of the cameras on ABC’s series Castle, and on GH.
When the two men got together on State of Mind this Sunday, the conversation turned to therapy, anxiety, and fear. If you don’t know, Gregory Zarian is also well-known as a certified motivational speaker. And, he wasn’t afraid to open up about his mental health issues that stem from alcoholism.

When Gregory started talking about his alcoholism, it came before Maurice Benard spoke about how he never knows what a day will bring. He’s bipolar and suffers from anxiety. So, Gregory asked him what it is that he fears. Well, the real-life Sonny just explained that he has to just let the fears go and “face whatever the day brings.”
Zarian had said, “There’s moments where the voices are so loud I want the voices to stop.” Then he confessed, “I’m an alcoholic. I’m a full-blown alcoholic. I live my life not one day at a time, one blink at a time.” He added, “It gives me grace.” Going further, he admitted “Sometimes I don’t know if I can make it in a day. It gets dark.”
How Does He Cope With Bad Days?
What does he do when things get tough and dark? Gregory Zarian told GH viewers that when he wakes up “dark” he remembers that he has a “marriage” that’s “super supportive and loving.” However, the couple also have a pup named “Byron.”
So, when he’s struggling with bad feelings and alcoholism, he tells himself, “I have to be there for Byron.” However, when he is alone, without anyone supportive or his dog, he does the “serenity prayer.”

He explained to Maurice Benard, “I pray really hard. God, help me here.” Additionally he talks himself “off the edge” by being in the present. What helps is to remind himself, “You are okay. You are right now… doing dishes. You are pouring a cup of coffee. You are making the bed and I become present.”
