General Hospital and Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal a whole lot of veteran soap and sitcom actor Charles Shaughnessy on your screens.
General Hospital – Charles Shaughnessy Is Coming Home To Soaps
On Thursday, we finally learned who kidnapped Liesl Obrecht. Why it’s Victor Cassadine, of course, already played to perfection by a silver-haired Charles Shaughnessy who abandoned his British accent for a Greek one to play this character. And he is once again obsessed with Liesl and won’t let her go because he can’t stand the idea of being with Scotty.
Victor Cassadine will also be sticking around because this is a contract role. Who else will he menace during his time in Port Charles?
In addition, for this week only, Shaughnessy is reprising his role as ISA agent Shane Donovan on the new Days of Our Lives streaming series, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, which you can watch on Peacock starting September 5.
Charles Shaughnessy Is Thrilled To Be Back On Daytime
Shaughnessy told Soap Opera Digest how bringing Shane back for the mini-series spin-off came about.
“I’ve always been interested in the idea, funny enough, of soap operas moving over to streaming. I’ve always felt that they should be doing this because it’s kind of a perfect set-up for streaming, with the continual storylines that you can cut into different sort of chunks,” Shaughnessy said. “For a couple of years now, I’ve thought, ‘That’s a great idea,’ and then suddenly my agent called and said, ‘Peacock is doing a streaming one-off of DAYS, sort of based off of DAYS storylines and characters, and they’re interested in having you come on board for it. Are you interested?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, absolutely!’ So that’s how it came about. And I was delighted! I had a blast. It was just a wonderful week [of taping], being back with the gang.”
Even his new role as Victor Cassadine is a return to General Hospital. Just before he started working on DAYS as Shane in 1984, he had a small part as Alistair, Holly’s cousin, so the world is also familiar to the actor.
“I said, ‘Well, sure! Okay!’ and it just sort of happened to coincide with this whole BEYOND SALEM thing, so I suddenly found myself appearing on the two different shows at the same time, one network, one streaming. It was a complete coincidence,” Shaughnessy told Digest. “I’m very excited to be working. It’s kind of fun to be in a whole different realm with different people and different actors and different characters and stories. That’s fun. So, I consider myself incredibly fortunate.”
Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem and General Hospital this week to see Charles Shaughnessy in action.
