Cameron Mathison, who plays Drew Cain on General Hospital, fostered a Doberman named Hunter. In September, he shared the happy news that the dog had found a forever home with a big yard and other pups to play with.
Unfortunately, the adoption didn’t work out, and Hunter is now back with his temporary dad, Cameron, while they search for a new, more suitable forever home for him.
Why Is Hunter Back?
Ahead of the weekend, the real-life Drew Cain shared a reel on Instagram of Hunter who, to be honest, looked pleased as punch to be back with his foster dad. They were in the car together, and Cameron talked about how the forever home had become just another temporary stop for the pup.
In his caption, the GH star also explained a bit more. It turned out that only after his adoption, the new owners discovered that Hunter “really needs to be the only pet in the house.” Perhaps he clashed with the other dogs.

Anyway, for now, he’s with Cameron, who explained why he can’t adopt the Doberman. After his home burned down, things became less stable for the actor. Remember, he moved into a rental, so it’s not a big house like the one he had before. The ABC star added, “so for now, we’re just enjoying the time together.”
Hunter Needs A New Home
Clearly, Cameron would love to keep Hunter, but he’s a large dog and needs space to run around. So, he asked if anyone is interested in a new rescue. He concluded by writing, “If you (or someone you know) has room in their home and heart for a 100-pound Doberman with no other pets, please reach out or drop a comment below!”
Many people felt that the furry friend should always stay with Cameron Mathison. However, it’s a big undertaking, and perhaps if he rebuilt his home he could do it. But that could be months or even years away yet. One follower opined, “Hunter says I’ll just wait until you get a bigger place for us.”
