General Hospital Spoilers – Cameron Mathison Celebrates Health

In September 2019, Cameron Mathison underwent treatment for renal cell carcinoma. And the General Hospital actor revealed an update on his health at the recent 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards. As a result of his treatment, the All My Children alum shared that he has remained free of cancer for four years and “doing great,” via People.

“I had my 4-year cancer checkup, so I’m healthy, cancer-free… doing great. I’m stronger than I’ve ever been. I’ve got more energy than I’ve ever been. I worked really hard at it,” admitted Mathison. For instance, the General Hospital actor described his new lifestyle featuring unusual treatments such as ice baths.

But Cameron also described his health journey after his diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer, in September 2019. And just days after learning that diagnosis, Mathison underwent a procedure that removed the tumor and only part of the kidney.

GH Spoilers – Cameron Mathison Shares Health Journey

But the General Hospital alum revealed that after the surgery, he learned that the treatment proved successful. However, Mathison still remembers learning that terrifying diagnosis.

“My doctor called me and said, ‘They found a growth on your right kidney that is consistent with renal cell carcinoma.’ It was like one of those moments where you’re in a dream,” recalled the General Hospital star. And he added that he “just wanted to wake up” from what felt like a “really scary” nightmare.

However, Cameron then turned to a health coach to enhance his health. And the All My Children alum admitted, “I thought I knew a lot about what I was doing in the right and the wrong ways or whatever. But in the last year, I’d say, maybe 14 months, I’ve learned more about my own specific health challenges and growth than I have probably in decades before that.”

And Mathison credits the experience for changing his outlook on life. “The way that it’s changed, it’s increased my desire and my willingness and my effort and motivation to help others and to spread the word and just to be a benefit. I got so much help through my journey,” added the All My Children alum. “And it’s like, not everybody has that.”
