General Hospital comings and goings reveal that Days of Our Lives’ loss is GH’s gain as veteran soap star Charles Shaughessy will be arriving in Port Charles in a contract role, according to Soap Opera Digest.

Shaughnessy got his soap opera start way back in 1984 as Shane the Butler on Days of Our Lives. It wasn’t long until it was revealed that Shane was actually an ISA agent and he went on to become one of the soap’s most popular leading men after he was paired with Patsy Pease’s Kimberly Brady. Shane Donovan and his twin, Drew, have come and gone through the years, with Shaughnessy last appearing on DOOL in 2018. Shane is also the father of Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley), Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) former fiance, and the mother of his son, Tate.

During his time off soaps, Shaughnessy also became known to primetime fans when he starred for seven seasons on the CBS sitcom The Nanny opposite Fran Drescher.

GH Spoilers – Who Will Charles Shaughnessy Play On General Hospital?

While there’s no word yet on what character Shaughnessy will play, we do know that he will first air in December, so we have months to speculate on whether he will be creating a new character or bringing back an old favorite. Social media has suggested he could play Elizabeth’s father, Jeff Webber, but that would mean Jeff had to develop a British accent over the years, unless Shaughnessy can play him with an American accent.

Perhaps he will play a long-lost Cassadine or one we already know. Anything is possible. Maybe he will even be involved with Robert (Tristan Rogers) and Holly (Emma Samms). We know Holly is alive out there, but the fact that she is being held hostage was dropped nearly a year ago and Robert will have to learn she is alive eventually, right?

There’s still a possibility a brand-new role and brand-new story are being created for the actor. He has typically played the dashing hero but can easily become the soap’s new big bad now that Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) is back in jail and out of the way.
