Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers)

Constance Towers, also known as Helena Cassadine on “General Hospital” will be featured on a documentary for the 100th celebration of Rita Hayworth. In the documentary, the actress will be taking the viewers to the Columbia lot where she met John Ford and Gregory Peck. She’ll be giving a tour of the place and talk about Rita Hayworth as well as her contributions to the film. She’ll also discuss why Hayworth remains as one of the great film goddesses.

In a recent interview with Classic Film and TV Café, Towers also opened up about her career. She became interested in show business at a very young age. As a child, she started appearing on radio plays. Later on, she went to Julliard School to study music.

She made her film debut back in 1955 in the Blake Edwards comedy “Bring Your Smile Along.” After that, she appeared several other major motion pictures including “The Horse Soldiers” (1959), “Sergeant Rutledge” (1960), “The Naked Kiss” (1964), and “Fate Is the Hunter” (1964).

Towers worked with the likes of John Wayne, William Holden, Glenn Ford, and Raymond Burr. Apart from gaining popularity on television, she also became a Broadway star. She appeared on “The King and I” with Yul Brynner.

She appeared on various daytime dramas including “Capitol,” “CBS Daytime 90,” and “General Hospital.” Her brilliant portrayal of her roles has earned her several awards.

GH News – Constance Tower’s Take On Helena Cassadine’s Popularity

Towers found her journey in “General Hospital” quite interesting. Looking back at her career, she’s used to playing the protagonist. But it all changed when she joined the cast of “General Hospital.” She was the villain and other actors didn’t want to work with her because after leaving their office, their characters were dead.

But despite all the things her character has done, the audience still loved her. Maybe because she played the role well and because the show gave her some humanity. Her vulnerability was her grandson, who she loved so dearly, and that’s what made fans love her.

When asked if her character is coming back on “General Hospital,” she simply said, “who knows what they have in store for her?”

If u EVER watched Helena Cassadine you’d know she had no humanity. She was sadistic. No one loved her for her heart. But she was one of the best villains GH had. Every story involving Helena was twisted…in a good way. Fun, exciting, mysterious and hearkens back to GH’s glory days.
