General Hospital News: Kelly Monaco Reveals Real Reason She's On GHPrior to being with part of “General Hospital,” Kelly Monaco played the character Livvie Locke on the soap’s spin-off “Port Charles” from 2000 to 2003. She didn’t have much time to react when she found out that the sudser was being canceled because she received another call a little bit later about several job opportunities.

“I got the call that the show was being canceled and I think I cried for like five seconds. It was pretty messed up. I fortunately had a call moments later with an option to pretty much take my pick!” Several soaps wanted to work with Monaco but she chose to work at “General Hospital.”

“I thought GH was the best show on daytime, so I called Brian Frons, who was head of ABC Daytime at the time,” she said. “I don’t think [then-headwriters Charles Pratt Jr. and Robert Guza Jr.] really liked that too much… but lo and behold, Sam was created! So I’m very grateful!”
