General Hospital News Updates: Filming Delayed, Find Out New Production Restart Target DateABC General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal fans are anxious for the long-running ABC soap to get back to filming. Originally, there was a tentative restart date of early July. However, Deadline reports that it has been moved to the last part of the month. Keep reading to find out everything known about this situation.

When Will General Hospital Start Filming?

As one soap got back to work in late June, The Bold and the Beautiful, fans hoped that General Hospital and others would follow shortly afterward. However, that hasn’t happened as quickly as everyone thought. The Young and the Restless is going back to work on July 14 (they film Tuesday through Fridays), Days of Our Lives has a production restart date of September 1, and GH had a target date of early July.

New Target Date

According to Deadline, the new target date for the soap to resume production is the week of July 20. The publication warned that the date was not set in stone as coronavirus infections are skyrocketing in Los Angeles.

General Hospital Updates – Running Out Of New Episodes

General Hospital ran out of new episodes during the quarantine, just like B&B and Y&R. DOOL is the only one who still has new episodes, but only until October 2020. The other soaps improvised by airing classic episodes, providing new cast commentary, live chats via social media during airings, and “theme weeks.”

General Hospital Safety Protocol

Just like every other production, certain safety measures will have to be followed before the cast and crew can get back to work. Initial negative COVID-19 tests, regular tests after that, wearing masks, deep cleaning, increased sterilization, and social distancing is all guidelines that they will have to follow.

As for whether the second wave of coronavirus will cause another production shutdown, film commissioner Colleen Bell recently told The Hollywood Reporter that people need to get back to work. However, the situation keeps changing, so it was hard for her to give a solid answer to that. Obviously, if the city of L.A. orders another lockdown, TV studios won’t be on the “essential worker” list.

“COVID-19 is going to be with us for a while, so we need to make sure the economy can open up and people can get back to work but still maintain a focus on safety. People are committed to that. The governor has been working for hand in glove with state and county health officials, and everybody is looking at statistical benchmarks. None of this will be easy.”

She added, “In terms of concern about a second wave, I haven’t been a part of conversations where people [are talking about that]. It’s possible that some who are pushing filming are just saying, ‘All right, well … ,’ but I can’t get inside of their heads.”
