General Hospital Ratings Tank, Can GH Writers Save The Soap

General Hospital Spoilers reveal the show’s rating have been abysmal for some time now. Longtime GH fans are always concerned that it’ll be the next soap on the chopping block, despite being the longest-running soap opera on television of all time. None of us will ever be ready for it to end, so we keep pleading with the writers to ditch the long-winded storylines and give the people what they really want — a place to check out every afternoon that captivates their audience by capitalizing on trending storylines without causing us too much pain.

Nowadays, we’re all overwhelmed by the barrage of discontentment on the internet, particularly on social media. Gh writers would be wise to take a page from Pat Smith’s book and jump on real-world issues just like she did with rape culture a la Luke Spener (Anthony Geary) and Laura Collins (Genie Francis).

General Hospital Spoilers — Terry Randolph And Yuri Are Being Completely Ignored

One specific storyline GH writers really haven’t done much with is that which Dr. Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) brings to the screen. Soap fans don’t want to be catered to on only one side of the aisle. We want to see a dispute for what it is and ultimately for everyone to end up with a somewhat happy ending. We’ve watched Terry and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) discuss the events of Terry’s childhood and how she came to know she was born in the wrong body.

General Hospital — Terry Randolph And Yuri

GH throws a nod in Terry’s direction here and there to highlight her life as a trans person, but most of the time, they’re just pretending her life is just like everyone else’s, and that isn’t true for most people who have transitioned. We want to hear about Terry’s traumas, and we want an inside look at what her relationship with Yuri (Cyrus Hobbi) is like. Keeping it off limits makes it seem like it’s either boring or not worth highlighting because she is a trans person. GH viewer demographics would support a balanced approach to Terry’s life. She’s more than a trans person, but glossing over the reality of life as such doesn’t really do the character justice.

GH Spoilers – Hint Roe v. Wade Storylines Wait In The Wings

The birth rate might be declining in the real world, but in Port Charles, we need the writers to keep pumping out babies so there is no shortage of family ties a decade or two from now that keeps the family tree of Port Charles flowing. That being said, a major storyline that GH writers are missing the mark with is that of Roe v. Wade. While any legal analysis is likely to agree that it was an unconstitutional law always at risk of overturning as soon as anyone cared to take a look at it, that doesn’t mean its reversal doesn’t have an impact.

A state like New York still pledges many protections to women’s rights, but there is plenty of opportunity on GH to see a character like Josslyn ‘Joss’ Jacks (Eden McCoy), Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), or Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) struggle with the very personal decision of whether or not to have an abortion. Controversial topics do have the power to alienate some audience members, but without the came gumption that Pat Smith had with her last-minute rape storyline, there might not be a GH audience for much longer.

General Hospital Spoilers — The Election

On that note, there are a few topics that we agree GH should continue to steer clear of. The primary one is all things election season. GH isn’t known for dabbling too heavily in politics, but this is the last time they should dare to entertain anything having to do with stealing votes or otherwise circumventing the election process — even if it’s just the local mayoral election. Fans have all had enough of that and we look to GH as an escape from that reality.

GH Spoilers – Tease Don’t Touch Covid-19

Speaking of politics, as much as we all wish Covid-19 were only a medical issue, politics have woven their way into the fabric of every corner of that data. Fans were thrilled to see 2020 and 2021 come to pass with little mention of the coronavirus or vaccines. GH writers deserve a pat on the back for keeping all of this hoopla out of their scripts and letting us check out five times a week into a world where Covid-19 didn’t exist. GH, we thank you! Stay tuned for more GH news, updates, and spoilers just ahead!
