General Hospital' Recap Wednesday, August 20: Maxie’s Tox Screen, Spinelli’s Breakdown, Martin Switches Sides

General Hospital recap is finally in for Wednesday, August 20, 2025! In today’s episode, Maxie Jones’ (Kirsten Storms) tox screen comes back. Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) breaks down.

Plus, Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) switches sides. (Make sure to check out our weekly GH spoilers, here!)

Alexis Davis’ Legal Advice

Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) talk about Stella Henry’s (Vernee Watson) situation. Curtis can feel that something is off.

The hospital’s legal team had no idea of the investigators and they are only reviewing Stella’s work. Alexis doesn’t like the sound of this.

Stella arrives and insists she doesn’t need a lawyer. However, Alexis gets Stella to rethink that. Stella is asked if she altered dates on her paperwork.

She did because people shouldn’t have to pay outrageous hospital bills for being one day late. Alexis says that is the definition of fraud. Not only could she lose her job, but she could also face criminal charges.

Damian Spinelli’s Breakdown

Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) tells Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) that Maxie should be awake by now. As Spinelli looks through the window to her room, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) approaches.

He has to tell the kids, but Lulu offers to do it for him. Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) is with the kids now.  Mac Scorpio (John J.  York) is determined to figure this out.

Why would Maxie’s heart suddenly fail out of nowhere, he asks Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) and Cody Bell (Josh Kelly)?

Maxie Jones’ Tox Screen

Lucas meets with Maxie’s loved ones. Nothing indicates her body is rejecting the heart. So, it’s good news, although they don’t know why she won’t wake up.

Later, Liz tries to reassure Lucas. Meanwhile, Spinelli begs Maxie to wake up. Once she does, he will ask her to marry him! Maxie doesn’t open her eyes. Oh, this is heartbreaking!

Drew Cain vs Gio Palmieri

Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison)  tries to create common ground with Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza). The violinist isn’t interested in Drew. His family is none of Drew’s business!

Drew talks to Martin about putting Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) in prison so he can get Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) back. He points to his black eye as Martin rolls his eyes.

They debate about the situation. Martin thinks Drew is going too far. Drew explains that once Willow gets her kids back, she’ll realize that he is still her hero.

Martin thinks there’s more to it than that. After all, Drew did sleep with Willow’s mother, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). Martin tries to reason with Drew. He brings up Curtis.

Drew mentions that Stella is being investigated for insurance fraud. Martin wants to know how he knows that. Martin can’t sign any statements if they are wrong. Drew starts to threaten Martin.

At the pool, Emma Scorpio-Drake (Braedyn Bruner)  opens up to Gio about Maxie. Meanwhile, Mac opens up to Cody.

Martin Grey Switches Sides

Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Michael, and Diane Miller (Carolyn Henessy) meet with Justine Turner (Nanzeen Contractor). Sonny wants a word with Turner alone.

The mob boss says that they both know Michael is innocent. Justine says she doesn’t know that. She says she will have to recuse herself if Michael is prosecuted. She can’t tell the court how she knows the information.

Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard)  arrives and greets everyone and starts answering questions for Justine and Diane. He just has one more witness to interview.

Drew and Martin arrive. The congressman whines about Michael not being in handcuffs. Chase says nobody recalls Michael hitting Drew.

Drew insists they take his statement. Justine tells Martin to sign off on it. However, Martin just stands there. Drew accuses Chase of witness tampering.

Liesl Obrecht & Lulu Spencer Connect

At Anna’s, Lulu talks to Emma. The college student is really sweet to Lulu, then leaves. Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) shows up at the door and faces Lulu.

Liesl doesn’t want any trouble. Lulu asks her to come in. Liesl says she spoke with Mac and knows about Maxie. That’s why she wanted to check on her grandson.

James West (Gary James Fuller)  suddenly hears there is something wrong with his mom’s heart and she’s in the hospital. Liesl warns Lulu gently that the longer Maxie doesn’t wake up, the higher the chance she will fall into a coma.

Elsewhere, Felicia updates Anna about Maxie’s condition. Back at the hospital, Lucas has an update. There’s an unidentified enzyme in Maxie’s tox screen.

They will have to analyze it further. Anna takes him aside and asks if he thinks Maxie was poisoned.
