Simply put, there isn’t any subject that Maurice is not willing to talk about in public, as he believes every conversation about every subject is important. With that said, we’ve got five of the best (and perhaps most valuable) quotes from Maurice below. Let us know what you think.
#1 Maurice Benard Believes In Pursuing Your Passions
Realizing that modeling was not going to work out for him, that’s when Maurice decided to focus on acting. According to Smashing Interview, Maurice said, “Modeling wasn’t going to happen because I’m way too short (laughs). And even though I lied about my height, it wasn’t going to happen. So, the next transition was acting. Once I got into acting, it seemed to work. Not that I was a good actor in the beginning because I wasn’t. I was actually pretty bad, but I knew I had something inside, like a passion about it, and I wasn’t going to give up.”
#2 Maurice Benard Is A Very Grateful And Humble Man
In an interview with Stone Cold and the Jackal, Maurice said, “I have been fortunate to get to work on many compelling storylines in my twenty-seven years on General Hospital. I am so proud of the AIDS storyline and how Sonny was so supportive of Stone during his battle with the disease. I also thought that addressing mental health issues by having my character, and my son on the show, Morgan Corinthos, battle bipolar disorder was incredibly important work.”
#3 The One Character Maurice Benard Wishes He Could Have Played
While Maurice will always be known as the one and only Sonny Corinthos, there is one General Hospital character that he wishes he would have had an opportunity to play. He told Stone Cold and the Jackal during their podcast, “I would have to pick Luke Spencer as he was always involved in some great adventure. Having said that, I miss working with Tony Geary. He is a close friend and I have so many fond memories of our time working together. The camaraderie and mutual respect that Sonny and Luke shared mirrors mine and Tony’s relationship as well.”
#4 Maurice Benard Is Speaking Up For Those Who Can’t, Especially When It Comes To Mental Health
Maurice puts it this way, “While I have been very vocal about my use of Lithium for my bipolar disorder, I like so many others, found the long quarantine period causing a great deal of anxiety. The enormity and duration of this COVID-19 outbreak have been overwhelming. After trying to literally suffer through it for four months of what felt like hell, I finally sought treatment to manage the anxiety and was prescribed Lexapro, which offered some much-needed relief. I also try to maintain a consistent exercise and meditation regimen.”
#5 Maurice Benard Loves His Family, But He Might Love His Goat Just A Little Bit More
He told Smashing Interviews, “Buddy the goat is just Buddy the goat. That guy’s like a dog or something. He’s not a goat. It’s amazing. I got him when he was little, and we bonded, and we’ve been great together. He bit my ear once on Instagram, and that was the beginning.”
