General Hospital News – Van Hansis’ Impact On Daytime Television

A Massachusetts native, Hansis has racked up three Daytime Emmy Award nominations during his tenure at ATWT; two for Outstanding Younger Actor and one for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

In addition, he also earned another Daytime Emmy nomination for playing Thom on EastSiders.

Hansis has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ storylines on soaps during his time on ATWT.

After all, Luke and Noah Mayer (Jake Silbermann) were the first same-sex males to share a romantic kiss on a daytime drama, which took place on August 17, 2007).

Hansis tells TV Insider ‘it feels great’ to be cast in another gay role with a soap. He goes on to say, “I love that Lucas is not the only gay character on the show .. it’s great that we’re in a place where it’s so casual, just like how it is in life.”

GH News – Lucas Jones’ History In Port Charles

As a legacy character on the show, Lucas was born in 1989.

As fans may recall, he’s the biological son of Cheryl Stansbury (Jennifer Anglin) and Julian Jerome (William deVry); however, was adopted by Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) and Tony Jones (Brad Maule) while they were married.

In the fall of 2005, Lucas came out as gay while a teen, and he did move away from Port Charles, in 2006, only to return to the little town in 2014.

He became a doctor and began working at the hospital and shared a nice romance with Brad Cooper (Perry Shen), until he found out that Brad and swapped their adopted newborn for Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) son, Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver).

Actor Ryan Carnes was the last to play Lucas Jones, when the character made an appearance for his mother, Bobbie’s, funeral, earlier in 2024.

Not really… the character adds nothing. Do not want to see interactions between Luke and Brad… that shipped sailed a long time ago… I see No purpose in his return
