That, and they simply can’t play nice with one another. However, there’s a possibility that at least one person in this complicated relationship will have to step up and be the bigger person, especially if they want to hold on to what they have. Co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor recently opened up about the situation between Nikolas and Ava and what’s next for the couple. The duo told Soap Opera Digest that Ava will have to stop lying to herself about this relationship and start realizing that yes, she can let her guard down and fall in love with Nikolas without having to be on the defensive all the time.

The duo told the publication that they have a surface-level issue, which is, how they will combat Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) as he tries to get Ava to accept his love. Etten puts it this way, “What’s more, they also have to address their own feelings for one another. Can they actually trust each other and have a real marriage? Only time will tell.”

Needless to say, that’s the same question that many General Hospital fans are asking, too. As much as Ava is the resident villainess in Port Charles, she’s gone through so many things that they want to see her settle down with someone, and that someone being Nikolas Cassadine. But will it happen? Perhaps if Nikolas works hard enough to defeat Ryan or at least stop him in his tracks, Ava might finally see him as the knight and shining armor that he is. Fingers crossed!
