General Hospital spoilers reveals Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) hasn’t been happy since the moment Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) was first welcomed into her home by none other than her own husband, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma). From that day, her marriage to the Cassadine prince began to erode. She questioned his commitment to her and why he would welcome such an emotional terrorist to stay with them when she made Ava feel so unsafe. Learning that he betrayed her in the ultimate way by later sleeping with Esme was the final straw — or so she thought.

General Hospital Spoilers — Ava Jerome Can’t Make Up Her Mind

The truth is, Ava can’t seem to decide for certain whether she wants to stay in her marriage to Nikolas or not. He is certainly committed to making it work, but he’s also committed to giving his uncle, Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaugnessy) the impression they are steadily steamrolling toward a divorce. The more convincing they can be, the more likely Victor will back off and not blow Nikolas’ cover — that he confessed to killing Esme.

While Nikolas did confess on paper to killing Esme, he did so with the genuine interest of gaining Ava’s affection and trust back, and proving the depths of his love to her. He never thought the confession would fall into Victor’s hands, where it would be used to blackmail him. That being said, Victor only believes the confession holds power because he believes Esme is dead or intends to stay gone and never resurface in Port Charles again. Little does he know, she already has and Nikolas is the sole person coming to her aid. For the time being, Nikolas will have to keep up the act and let Victor think he has some modest power over the fate of his marriage.

Although Nikolas gave his written confession to Ava, she didn’t exactly think she needed to lock it up for safekeeping. However, Victor quickly deployed ValentinCassadine (James Patrick Stuart) to pilfer it from Ava’s purse. Now that it’s in his possession, Ava only knows that it isn’t in her own. She immediately assumed that Nikolas came back and confiscated the confession after it didn’t help him succeed in winning Ava back.

As Ava moved to confront Nikolas, Victor saw them together and has since taken note that they may not be at odds as Nikolas has painted it. Victor is going to go straight to the source — Ava. He will realize his best hand has yet to be played by playing the wife against the husband and getting her to divorce Nikolas since Nik won’t file himself.
