Steve Burton Is Out
General Hospital’s Steve is a very popular daytime star. However, due to the mandates at General Hospital, Steve has been let go. However, Steve is not bitter toward the network or anyone at the show. Steve even admitted that if the vaccine mandates are ever lifted, he hopes to once again come back as Jason Morgan and finish his career there. Steve says that he applied for both medical and religious exemptions and both were denied by the powers in charge there.
Fans who follow Steve know that he was diagnosed with COVID in mid-August meaning that the 90 day time period between contracting the virus and getting the vaccine would not have been up when the November 1 deadline rolled around. However, apparently, Disney nor ABC respects an actor’s right to say no despite medical or religious freedom. ABC and Disney have yet to comment on Burton’s dismissal.
Zone A Requirements
At General Hospital Zone A is comprised of those present on set including cast, crew, and the actors themselves that are present when actors aren’t wearing masks. Everyone in this situation was required to be vaccinated by November 1, 2021. Neither Steve Burton nor Ingo Rademacher opted to take the vaccine even though it was required. Both actors knew the risk of this decision but Burton tried to get his exemptions which are allowed in most work settings. Now that Steve is gone, Jason is trapped in a pile of rubble until G.H. writers decide what to do with the character.
Steve’s Video Message
Burton’s video begins “I wanted you to hear it from me, personally. Unfortunately, GH has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied. Which hurt, but this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anyone should lose their livelihood over this. And I believe that when one door closes, multiple doors open. That’s always been my perspective…So I am excited to see what the future brings.”
Burton originally joined General Hospital in 1992 and played Jason Morgan for the most part until 2012. In 2017, Burton returned to the soap to reprise his role as Jason and thought he was here to stay. The best-laid plans don’t always work out and Burton’s exit is proof of this. Will Burton return in the future if the vaccine mandate is lifted? Will the network choose to recast the role once again? We wish Steve good luck in the future and look forward to seeing how things progress from here.

A BIG MISTAKE ON ABC’s part in this. Steve and Maurice are the big draws to GH. ABC keeps on they won’t have anyone watching this show.
I will miss Steve. I think it is unreasonable to expect him to get vaccinated, especially since he already had Covid not too long ago. I will also miss Ingo. I think ABC is making a big mistake. It's not like these actors work every day. Why don't they just test the unvaccinated actors every day that they work. And, BTW, vaccinated people can get Covid, too.
Right, that's from all the selfish people who think they're immune or want to play Russian Roulette?
Because the 2 different types of Covid are so vastly different, it is the difference between life and death. Vaccinated persons have vastly less chance and of contracting due to the irresponsibles, it is actually like a mild flu to a bad cold. This follows medical science. The argument you are trying to make, I'm very sorry, but it does not hold water.
Do you think just because Steve had it once he can't get it again? One Covid strain is so bad the people with the vaccine are getting break through cases. What about people that are immno-compromised? I just don't get why people won't get vaccinated, it could mean life or death of someone close to you. Vaccinated people have a far less chance of getting Covid and if they end up with a break through case, they don't usually get as sick as someone unvaccinated. Why should the studio's pay to test unvaccinated people when all they have to do is get the vaccine,. that could get extremely expensive.
I am with you Steve
Tell that to the 9 out of 10 double vaccinated patients dying from covid in the ICU as this moment!!!
Thank you for thinking like someone who cares about the people around them and listening to the medicine.
