General Hospital Spoilers: Coby Ryan McLaughlin Talks How He Loves Playing The Sinister Cult Leader, Shiloh

Coby Ryan McLaughlin said he’s “having a blast” playing the role of the sinister cult leader, Shiloh Archer, on “General Hospital.” He appreciates the feedback he’s getting, both positive and negative.

General Hospital News – His First Death Threat

Viewers are really getting into it, to the point that he got his first death threat.

McLaughlin shared, “This chick was like, ‘I hate you. I want you dead.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s a common response.’ And she was like, ‘No, I really want you dead.’ I was like, ‘Me? I like SEX AND THE CITY and puppies. I’m an okay dude, I swear!’”

He also appreciates the opportunity of being able to share scenes with other actors as his alter-ego’s storyline expands.

He said, “There are people popping up in my script and I’m like, ‘Who the hell are these people? I’ve got to IMDb them!’”

He’s got nothing but good things to say about his costars and feels very lucky for getting a chance to work with them. He described Kelly Monaco as a “consummate professional and added that Steve Burton has been “wonderful.”

GH News – Realizations As He Plays His Role

Playing this role made McLaughlin realize several things. He acknowledged the fact that his character exists in real life. He said, “This stuff happened somewhere at some point. Like, right now, there’s some sex cult leader a–hole doing this stuff.”

In order to portray his role effectively, McLaughlin said he tries to picture himself in his character’s world. He dives into his character’s reality, and he finds ways to bring him to life.

“The farther I go down this rabbit hole and the farther I get along on this journey with this character, he’s becoming very primitive; his instincts, which are almost reptilian, are kind of taking over,” he explained.

When asked if his alter-ego will ever be redeemed, McLaughlin wasn’t very sure what to say. He simply said, “There are a lot of good guys on daytime television and having someone who’s completely morally reprehensible provides this really interesting yin to the yang. I don’t know if I would totally want this guy to be redeemed!”
