Dante and Sam’s recent New Year’s Eve date night fell a bit flat when Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) showed up at Kelly’s. Dante pushed for Dex to change his story about what really happened with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) at Pozzulo’s when Dex was locked up in the meat locker, but he politely declined for the dozenth time.

When Sam inquired about whether Dante was really trying to avoid having to arrest his father, or whether he was building a case against him, Dante asserted himself as the loyal boy in blue he believes he is and boasted that he’s never given his dad a pass just because he’s his dad. When Dante first came to Port Charles in 2009, he was visiting as an undercover cop who was pretending to get Sonny on his side while working for him. Collecting information in the pursuit of taking the mob boss down, Dante has no idea at the time that Sonny was his father. He never knew who his dad was, and his mom, Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) never let him feel that anything was missing from his upbringing. Of course, the absent father may have played a role in what kind of trouble Dante got into as a kid though.

When Sonny found out Dante was playing him, he shot him square in the chest just moments before Olivia arrived and told him Dante was his son. This changed everything for both of them. Sonny instantly felt broken and prayed his son would live. When Dante woke up, he was off duty for recovery and decided to bury the evidence he collected on Sonny. That wasn’t all he did though. He also went the extra step by telling the police he accidentally shot himself in the chest, versus turning Sonny in for nearly killing him. Is this what he meant when he told Sam he’s never given his father a pass?

General Hospital Spoilers — What Lurks In Dante Falconeri ’s Past?
Rumor has it Dante has a pretty spotty record. No one will ever find it though. His years spent rolling around in the dirt with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) might seem like a lifetime ago, but Cody hasn’t forgotten. As long as he’s in and connected to Port Charles, too, he’s a liability for Dante — who would prefer Cody keeps his distance from Sam.
