General Hospital Spoilers – Finola Hughes Celebrates 35th Anniversary As Anna Devane

Daytime Emmy Award winner Finola Hughes debuted on GH on April 10th, 1985. Back then she was a mysterious sylph, pretending to be a jewel thief while actually being employed by the World Security Bureau as a spy who could do just about anything.

Since those early days, we’ve watched as Anna has matured, endured joy, experienced heartache, and stared down any and every challenge that has come her way.

Who could forget the early years as she raised her daughter Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough)? It’s the stuff of legend, but it’s true, the story about Finola putting her foot down when TPTB tried to SORAS Robin. Finola knew that the relationship between Anna and Robin was magical and could never be duplicated with another actress—in the end, she won the argument and millions of GH fans who watched Kimberly grow up on our screen are winners, too.

About her anniversary, Finola shared a throwback pic on Instagram and said: “This happened #35 yrs ago when I started at #GH. That day I couldn’t have known I would play this character on and off over the next three decades and love it so much. I couldn’t have known the extraordinary friends and family I would make. I couldn’t have known the outpouring of love from our dedicated audience. I also didn’t know the life I would lead in my adopted country and the welcome I would feel or the children that were to come. Thank you for embracing Anna’s badassery. Love you lots #staysafe #staysane #stayhome (I also didn’t know what was going to be under my peek-a-boo hairdo, but that’s another story).”

Fun fact: Finola won the Outstanding Lead Actress Daytime Emmy Award for her portrayal as Anna Devane in 1991.
