Ian Buchanan has graced the soap opera world since 1986. Since then, he’s appeared in various soap operas including ABC “General Hospital.” But what brought him to the United States? What story does he have to tell as to what pushed him to cross the Atlantic?
The actor was born in 1957 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Before landing the role of Duke Avery one “General Hospital,” the said he decided to move to the United States because of his aunt.
Buchanan shared that his aunt immigrated to this country before him. She sent him $5 every year on his birthday and made him promise to come to the U.S. and bring the money. Years passed and the actor decided to make good on his promise and that paved the way for his success in the acting industry.
“My dream of America goes back to my aunt who came here and sent me five dollars, back to Scotland, every year on my birthday and made me promise to come to the States and bring the money. I did, alone. My life is here. It has nothing to do with jobless gun-wielding thugs,” the actor shared.

After arriving in the country, Buchanan studied at Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York. He then moved to Los Angeles and eventually joined the cast of popular soaps like “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Port Charles,” “All My Children,” and “Days of Our Lives.”
The actor is proud of himself and what he’s accomplished. He pursued his passion and is now living a wonderful life in the U.S. Even if he’s been in the country for decades, he is still left in awe by the beauty of the place.
The actor recently tweeted photos of nature and himself while wearing a mask, which is his own way of encouraging the public to wear masks.

In 1988, he won the Outstanding Newcomer: Daytime category at the 4th Soap Opera Digest Awards for his role on “General Hospital.” He also won the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 24th Daytime Emmy Awards for his role on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
