General Hospital spoilers and updates tease that if Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) break up, it might not be over Anna Devane (Finola Hughes).
Instead, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) could become the unexpected threat to their relationship. Here’s why!
Key Takeaways
- Valentin hesitates to reveal evidence that could hurt Nina
- Carly questions his reluctance to help Lulu
- Valentin’s history with Nina raises suspicions
- Carly and Nina share years of romantic rivalry
- Valentin’s loyalty could threaten his relationship with Carly
Valentin Didn’t Want To Make Things Worse For Nina In Steinmauer, And It Doesn’t Make Sense
Valentin didn’t want to make things worse for Nina in Steinmauer by trying to help Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) with the libel suit she’s facing from Nina’s daughter, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen).
Lulu had asked Valentin to verify that the WSB had a paralytic drug that could make people appear to have a stroke and then experience locked-in syndrome. He said he’d check.
But it didn’t make sense to Carly why Valentin didn’t verify this to Lulu when he already knew about the drug. He nearly got injected with Drew Cain’s (Cameron Mathison) dose himself!
As seen in Carly and Valentin’s recent conversation about helping Lulu, Valentin was concerned that revealing too much could damage Nina’s position before they had enough evidence.
And at the time, he was very angry with Nina for trying to use Charlotte Cassadine (Bluesy Burke) to find him for Jack Brennan (Chris L. McKenna) when Valentin was still a fugitive.
Valentin knew that Drew’s “medication” was connected to Jack’s apparent stroke and locked-in condition, and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) knows the paralytic is a WSB weapon!
So why would Valentin hesitate to share information that could help Lulu, especially when Nina’s daughter is the one suing her?
Why Would Valentin Care About Helping Nina If He Didn’t Still Care For Her – Is There A Torch?
Carly was previously worried about the possibility that Valentin might still carry a torch for Anna.
Even Anna had concerns and told Carly about the years-long obsession Valentin once had with her.
However, it now seems that Nina may be the woman Carly should be watching more closely.
After all, Valentin and Nina share a complicated romantic history, and Carly might wonder why he still feels the need to protect his former wife.
True, Valentin has been in Steinmauer himself, and he knows firsthand that it’s not a good or safe place to be.
Perhaps he simply doesn’t want Nina to suffer unnecessarily, especially when her responsibility for Brennan’s disappearance has not been established.
However, Nina’s desperate negotiations with the WSB could make the situation even more complicated for Valentin and Carly.
If Valentin continues protecting Nina, will Carly start wondering whether there’s more behind his concern than simple compassion?
Carly And Nina Have Years Of Romantic Rivalry
Carly and Nina have literally years of romantic rivalry, starting with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Carly never did understand Nina’s tendency to become involved with men who had previously been part of her life.
When she thinks about it, the rivalry even goes back to before Nina became involved with Sonny in Nixon Falls and failed to tell his loved ones that he was alive and living with amnesia as Mike.
Nina had been involved with Jasper Jacks (formerly Ingo Rademacher) before that, and then she became romantically involved with Jack Brennan after Carly ended their relationship.
Is it any wonder Carly might worry about Valentin still having ties to Nina, especially when she doesn’t understand his reasons for protecting her?
And with Carly already taking a major romantic risk with Valentin, the last thing she needs is another woman from his past complicating their future.
Of course, Valentin’s concern for Nina doesn’t necessarily mean he’s still in love with her.
But if Carly starts believing that Nina has a special place in Valentin’s heart, could their relationship fall apart before it really has a chance?
Annemarie’s Take
Well, I have to say, I didn’t expect Nina to be the woman who might cause trouble for Carly and Valentin! We’ve spent so much time worrying about Anna that Nina almost slipped under the radar.
But I can understand why Carly would be suspicious. Valentin already knew about the WSB drug, so why was he so reluctant to tell Lulu what he knew?
Personally, I don’t think protecting Nina automatically means Valentin wants her back. They have a history, and maybe he simply doesn’t want to see her suffer.
Still, Carly and Nina have been rivals for years, and Carly isn’t exactly known for ignoring warning signs when another woman is involved!
I’m actually enjoying Carly and Valentin together, so I hope Nina doesn’t become another obstacle. But this is Port Charles, and we all know a little jealousy can turn into a major disaster!
Do you think Valentin still has feelings for Nina, or is Carly worrying over nothing? Could Nina become a bigger threat to Carly’s relationship than Anna? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
