Stepping in to act as her representative was the least he could do after putting his mom through thinking he was dead for the last two years. Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleton) is reportedly down and out with pneumonia.
In reality, the actress has taken a few spills and is still on the mend. The last time we saw her, she was in a wheelchair.
This is bringing about rumors of possible health problems that could keep Charleton away from the set permanently. If that’s the case, some fans are asking why they can’t recast the role. Others don’t exactly feel that way.

The fans have noticed that Monica’s messages to Jason are brought via other people, as though he can’t pick up the phone and call his own mother — or vice versa.
Having Monica constantly away from home or unavailable for every family event just isn’t jiving with much of the fan base.

A short stint away is one thing, but being gone for years at a time is another story. Having Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) and Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) back in Port Chuck has taken some of the attention away from the elephant in the Quartermaine living room that is Monica’s absence, but it’s still there.
Having Brook Lynn and Danny Morgan (Asher Atonyzyn) run to Jason with messages like carrier pigeons instead of contacting him herself is getting old though.
GH Spoilers Hint Some Fans Say a New Monica is Warranted
Believe it or not, some GH fans are starting to suggest change is in order. They’re tired of hearing Tracy and Lois talk about Monica’s demands for the household when she’s never around.

Many are sick of the plot holes surrounding her — like only mentioning she was ill when it was time for Jason to step up and go to the wedding on her behalf.
Besides, we all know Jason isn’t the kind of son who knows his mother has been ill and hasn’t stopped by to see her.
It’s making everyone else look bad that Monica has become completely irrelevant until it needs to be noted why she’s not present for someone else’s big moment.

On the other hand, plenty of fans are in Charleton’s camp and feel the role should never be recast. Much the way Lila Quartermaine was allowed to die with Anna Lee and no one would ever replace Stuart Damon as Alan Quartermaine, Monica is a staple and an entrenched part of GH history.
We expect to see Charleton carry on the role — on and off screen — until she is no longer with us. In the meantime, GH will continue to get creative about her off-screen participation, and we hope a call to her son happens soon.
