Also known as Dr. Liesl Obrecht on “General Hospital,” the actress Kathleen Gati recalled the time she played Krampus five years ago on the show’s holiday-themed episode. At that time, her character, Dr. Obrecht, thought it was a good idea to tell the legend of the half-goat/half-demon who punishes misbehaved children during Christmas.
A Special and Memorable Christmas Episode
The actress admitted that it was “a very special episode” for her for several reasons and it has given her a lot of fond memories. She considered it an honor to introduce this mythological figure in Central European folklore to the audience. The story of Krampus was so interesting that a movie was made about it. She believes viewers these days are more informed about Krampus and what it really represents.
Gati shared that she was worried about the child actors who were doing the scene with her. So, she asked the showrunners if she could talk to the children before they started filming. She wanted to reassure them that she wasn’t really a bad person. The actress also went on to show them that she was just wearing a costume and there’s no reason to be scared.
She was so pleased to have worked with a cool group of kids. She described them as “groovy” and they told her that “it’s all good,” which actually surprised her. The kids were so good that when they started filming the scenes, their reactions were the total opposite. They were really scared. It was a fun experience, one that she’ll remember for a long time.

Gati’s Run As Dr. Liesl Obrecht
Gati joined the cast of “General Hospital” as Dr. Liesl Obrecht back in 2012. She was the director of the Swiss clinic where Dr. Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) was held as a prisoner by Cesar Faison (Anders Hove).
Her portrayal of the German doctor was so good that the writers kept on bringing her back. Her role was initially meant to last for a few days but thanks to her impeccable performance, the writers expanded her storyline.
Other Acting Credits
Aside from “General Hospital,” Gati appeared on other shows like “All My Children” from 1989 to 1990, “The Practice,” “NYPD Blue,” “ER,” “Cold Case,” “Desperate Housewives,” “The Mentalist,” and more. She also appeared in several movies like “Sunshine” and “Igby Goes Down.
