General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Michael E. Knight will return as Martin Grey this week on the soap.
He opens up about his latest appearance as the brother of Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and half-brother of Laura Collins (Genie Francis) in Soap Opera Digest (SOD).
General Hospital Spoilers – Absent Since February 2024 For A Planned Hiatus
GH spoilers suggest that Michael E. Knight is set to return to General Hospital as Martin this week, after a several-month absence from the screen. His character, Martin Grey, last left town in February following a breakup with Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring).
Martin had literally caught Lucy in a roll in the hay with her ex, Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner).
This, of course, added to making her seem more like the cad than Knight’s previous character, “Tad the Cad” Martin from All My Children (AMC).
Initially, Knight’s break was meant to last only three months, but it ended up being extended due to changes in the show’s writing team, which delayed Martin’s return.
The actor expressed uncertainty about whether the character had a place in GH’s upcoming storyline-“By August, I found myself thinking, ‘Well, it’s all good, no worries,'” he confesses.
GH Spoilers – Michael E Knight Expresses Gratefulness To The Show
His deep sense of gratitude stemmed from the incredible time he had already enjoyed on the show. “Frank [Valentini, the executive producer] initially brought me on board to collaborate with Roger (Howarth, whose character Franco was represented by attorney Martin) while I was navigating my health insurance (work requirement).”
Later Martin was revealed as a half-brother of Laura, along with Cyrus, and was also working as a lawyer for Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).
Knight tells SOD, “I will forever be thankful to Frank for what he did, because those four days [of working on GH] blossomed into four amazing years. ”
Knight further expresses, “For me, it felt like I had already hit the jackpot-I had no reason to complain about those four days turning into four years-I’m just one thankful guy!
General Hospital Spoilers – More Unexpected Changes With Writers Shuffles
Following a shift in the leadership of GH’s writing team, with Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten taking the reins, Martin finds himself back in the spotlight.
Valentini soon contacted Knight to discuss the possibility of reprising his role.
Knight states that, “Frank has my unwavering loyalty. When Frank reached out to inform me about my return and shared the details regarding Martin’s storyline, I couldn’t have been happier.”
Although Knight is unable to reveal the specifics of Martin’s return to Port Charles, he does suggest that the character will play an important role.
Considering the current storyline with Lulu Spencer (now ex-AMC castmate Alexa Havins) needing a liver transplant, we can speculate this, at least, might be a part of it.
GH Spoilers – Michael Talks About His Martin Grey Role And His Past As Tad Martin
As for Martin’s role, he playfully compares it to paprika, saying, “People often asked me, ‘What’s your role on General Hospital?’ and I would respond, ‘It’s like paprika. You don’t use it frequently, but it definitely adds some flavor to the mix.’”
With nearly three decades of experience in the soap opera world, as Tad Martin on All My Children since 1982, he understands the creative benefits of his recurring role on GH.
Knight explains, “The ideal situation in a soap is to be the fresh face, because once you’ve tied the knot with Dixie Cooney (Cady McClain) three times, you’re in a tough spot. If they resurrect her for the third time without any explanation just so you can ride off into the sunset, it’s a sign you’ve lingered too long.”
General Hospital Spoilers – Glad To Be Back
He continues, “Now, I’m fortunate to have Chris [Van Etten] back; he’s the one who created Martin-this means I get to be a fresh addition for Chris, twice!”
Now that he’s back in the vibrant world of Port Charles, Knight is thrilled to reunite with the talented cast, including familiar faces from his AMC days.
He knew Maurice Benard (Sonny; formerly Nico, AMC) and Genie Francis (Laura; formerly Ceara, AMC) from back then and he’s excited Eva LaRue (Natalia; formerly Maria, AMC) is in the fold.
“What can I say about her?” Knight beamed; “She’s stunning, she’s amazing, and we’ve been friends for three decades. It was fantastic to see her again.”
Adding the frosting on the cake, Knight learned of Alexa Havins being recast as Lulu during the SOD interview and he has nothing but thankfulness for another round as Martin!
