General Hospital Spoilers: Michael Corinthos Pursues Legal Name Change for Wiley Cooper-Jones – Nelle Benson Thwarts His Plans?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers – Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) wants to change his son’s last name.
For most of Wiley Cooper-Jones’s (Theo and Erik Olson) life, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) has merely been his godfather. When GH revealed that Wiley was actually Michael’s real son, it threw both characters into emotional turmoil.

GH fans will remember that Wiley lost the only parents he knew when Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes) remembered Brad Cooper’s (Parry Shen) tearful revelation. In that admission, Brad revealed that Wiley wasn’t really the son they had adopted and that Wiley was actually Michael’s son.

General Hospital Spoilers – Brad Cooper In Jail For Wiley Cooper Jones Switch

The entire story came out during a going-away party held for Brad and Lucas at the estate of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Brad was then hauled off to jail. Lucas tearfully watched as Michael and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) raced to retrieve Wiley from the home of Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen). GH viewers will remember that Wiley’s birth mother, Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier) attempted to kidnap the toddler and had a violent altercation with Willow.

Over time, as Michael has grappled with the sudden shock of discovering that his son is alive (and is actually Wiley) he has consistently worked to grow closer to the child. Many times GH viewers will remember that he’s told others how much he wants to be the best father to Wiley that he can be. He’s also recently shared vulnerable moments with his current girlfriend, Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson). In these instances, he’s confessed to his doubts and fears concerning his changing role in Wiley’s life.

Moreover, Michael understands that he must now protect Wiley. Although Nelle is in jail, and Michael believes she is headed back to prison, Michael wants to assure himself that his former lover will have zero access or contact with the child.

GH Spoilers – Michael Corinthos Makes A Decision

It cannot be a surprise to GH fans then that Michael decides the time has come to solidify his legal status as Wiley’s father. In order to ensure that outcome, he invites Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) over to discuss the issue. During the discussion, it is suggested that Michael change Wiley’s last name from Cooper-Jones to Quartermaine-Corinthos. Diane comments that this will be a name to reckon with.

However, a wrench is thrown into Michael’s plans when Diane also warns him that he can’t make the name change right now. To Michael’s shock, he learns that Nelle still has legal rights concerning Wiley despite her own legal troubles.

In light of this new information, what will Michael do? Considering that Nelle Benson is such a dark GH character, it’s likely that Michael hasn’t experienced the last of her interference in his life. This is especially true when it comes to the child they share.
