General Hospital Hospital Spoilers – Dr. Neil Byrne Had Been Approached By Mayor Laura Collins About Opening Up A Drug Treatment Clinic
General Hospital viewers will recall from previous episodes that Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) had dropped in on Dr. Neil Byrne and Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) as they were at General Hospital looking at Neil’s new office, which he was moving into after having been hired as General Hospital’s newest psychiatrist. Considering the increasing drug addiction problems in Port Charles with the moving into Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) territory by Cyrus Renault, (Jeff Kober) a powerful drug lord, she wants to set up a drug addiction treatment clinic and has heard that Neil is an expert in this type of thing.
Neil accepts the job and Kevin offers to help as well. Sonny had kept drugs out of Port Charles prior to Renault’s takeover; that is the one thing that he will not agree with, and that is one reason that he is tolerated by Port Charles officials for the most part. Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) has not yet been asked, but he would be all for the clinic and help as he is able as well, since who better can understand addiction than one who has recovered from it?
Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) may also be willing to help in the clinic once his plate is not so full. However, with drugs and addiction, comes other crimes; burglary, theft, and assaults for money to buy those drugs from dealers, and sometimes from the dealers themselves!
GH Spoilers – The New Drug Addiction Clinic Will Likely Be Located At The Waterfront!
Chances are, the new drug addiction clinic will likely be located where the drugs and dealers are – at the waterfront! Drug addicts are not likely to come to a hospital in the city, where police are assumed to be a threat – but they will go to one where they live, and where dealers are close.
This clinic will not only be for addiction treatment, which will be downplayed, but also for the treatment of overdoses which will be a lifesaving haven. 911 and first responders are not always called, and cannot always get to a victim in time to save them, especially with deadly drugs like fentanyl, which can kill someone merely by breathing the air surrounding it. Neil and Kevin and other doctors may not be there all the time but will be there certain hours and possibly certain days, as when Kevin sees patients in other facilities such as Ferncliff or Shadybrook.
There likely will be others trained to assist during the clinic’s open hours when the doctors are not there, to provide emergency treatment and first aid as necessary. It only makes sense that other needed medical services are made available to these types of clients as well as addiction treatment. It will likely be either an addict or a dealer who assaults Neil, either to rob him or out of suspicion that he may be an undercover DEA agent or narc!
