Monica has had two natural children, AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan, Billy Warlock) and Dawn Winthrop (Sharon Case, Lisa Fuller, Jennifer Guthrie). She was given up for adoption and then showed up in the nursing school program of General Hospital in 1989.
It was revealed that she was Monica’s long-lost daughter with David Langton, a man to whom Monica was engaged but died before the wedding could happen. Dawn and Ned fell in love and almost married, but Dawn found out Monica had had an affair with Ned and bailed out. She left town, later came back but then was the victim of a murder. Longtime General Hospital viewers may remember those storylines.
AJ was of course her son with Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon). Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Drew Cain (Billy Miller) are stepsons from an affair that Alan had, but she still thinks of them as her sons and so thinks of Oscar as her grandson. Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) was adopted, but Monica of course was her mom by adoption and counts her as her own also.
One thing unique to Oscar’s situation is that Monica has never set up what basically constitutes a hospice in her home. That makes her the doctor on call if anything happens with Oscar whether she’s at home or at work, and things could happen with Oscar any time of night or day. That could be a lot of emotional pressure on Monica, although she hides it well.
Whether he will actually die in the Quartermaine mansion or not is questionable; preview photos in Soap Opera Digest in the May 6 edition appear to show him in the hospital, in a hospital bed in a hospital gown, with Drew and Dr. Kim Nero (Tamara Braun) preparing to say goodbye to him. Even though Monica may have had a hospital bed and medical equipment installed at the mansion, it doesn’t seem reasonable for him to have hospital gowns there as well.

I’m really not ready for Oscar’s final scenes I can’t handle anymore death storylines
I’m so sorry he’s going off the program. I liked that young boy and Josh. A really cute and innocent couple why write him off.
