General Hospital spoilers indicate that Genie Francis (Mayor Laura Collins) has been a powerhouse performer in Port Charles on and off for the past several decades.
But she’s not always given the material that really showcases her talents. Over the last several months, Laura has made several questionable decisions.
She has chosen to turn her back on Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) while also looking into having Heather Webber’s (Alley Mills) case reopened. Fans haven’t exactly had a lot to root for where Laura is concerned.
General Hospital Spoilers – The phone call that changed Laura Collins life!
But all of that recently changed when the mayor received a phone call that she has been dreading for a long time.
Laura’s daughter, Lulu Spencer (last played by Emme Rylan) has been comatose for three and a half years, and now her condition is getting worse.
Lulu’s liver is apparently failing which means the young woman could die without ever waking up again.
Francis did a wonderful job as she struggled to figure out exactly what this new diagnosis could mean for her beloved daughter.
GH Spoilers – Laura Collins is highly protective of her children
When Laura showed up at Silver Waters, the long-term facility where Lulu was being cared for, she was shocked to see her brother Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) in Lulu’s room.
Although Laura and Cyrus’ relationship has improved, it’s hard for Laura to forget that Cyrus is responsible for the accident that injured Lulu in the first place.
Cyrus has claimed to have turned his life around, but Laura was obviously conflicted about Cyrus presence, Francis did a masterful job of keeping Laura’s feelings for Cyrus in check, maintaining her composure even as her world was falling apart around her.
General Hospital Spoilers – Laura Collins won’t give up on Lulu Spencer!
Later in the week, Lulu was moved back to General Hospital. During a rare moment of vulnerability, Laura talked to Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) about her determination to fight for Lulu.
Francis finally allowed emotion to come out as she said she knew that people doubted if Lulu would ever wake up.
Through tears, Laura said she knew Lulu was a fighter and would never give up, so neither would she. All in all, it was a masterful performance by one of General Hospital’s most legendary performers.
What do you think?
Will Lulu wake up? How did you feel about Francis’ performance this week? What’s next for Laura? Anything can happen in Port Charles so stay tuned to General Hospital airing weekdays on ABC.

Laura has done an excellent job trying to get help for her daughter Lulu. I’ve watched General Hospital every episode since it has been on. It would be nice if Luke would come back to save Lulu’s life. It would be good to see him again. Also Sam needs to stay on General Hospital. I love General Hospital but they keep getting new people on the show and letting the ones that has been here for years go. Just like Sam and others that has left the show. Please stop letting the the original characters leave.
