General Hospital Spoilers – Shawn Butler’s Sentence Was Commuted To Time Served

General Hospital viewers will recall from a recent episode of General Hospital that Shawn’s sentence was commuted to time served, in large part to a governor worried about re-election! Somehow the news about Judge Naomi Carson’s (Anita Finlay) investigation for bias against people of color was leaked to the press, and took off like a wildfire! As Shawn and Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) waited in the Port Charles Police Department, Mayor Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and Port Charles Police Commissioner Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) gave them the good news.

Alexis wasn’t able to get off scot-free but she was being transferred to a much safer prison to serve her time, one that she was familiar with and had worked to get her own clients transferred to in the past. Longtime General Hospital viewers will recall, however, as Alexis mentioned, Shawn didn’t shoot Hayden even though he confessed to it. He had taken a plea bargain, because the punishment could have been much more severe had he not. But while he was freed and his sentence commuted, that still doesn’t clear his name and his reputation. In order to do that, he must find who really shot Hayden that day, and bring that person to justice. This may be a difficult task considering it happened seven or eight years ago when he was Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) enforcer.

GH Spoilers – Shawn Butler’s Commutation May Cause Problems For Nikolas Cassadine

Longtime General Hospital viewers will recall that the day Hayden was shot, resulting in a coma, that Shawn was there for Sonny – he was supposed to carry out a hit on Jake Doe (Billy Miller) who Sonny was suspicious was an enemy. This was long before Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) was discovered to have been separated from his twin, Drew Cain (Billy Miller at that time). Later, facial recognition software was used on the amnesiac and Jake was revealed to have had the face of Jason.

It wasn’t until Jason was set free from the Boronsky Clinic in Russia that the truth came out, partly because of Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) remembering his “brother” who was a short term foster brother he remembered only as “Andy”. At the time Shawn was at the location for the hit, Hayden was there as well, and someone else had taken out a hit on her – Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma)!

So when Shawn was fingered as the would-be assassin, Nikolas was in the clear – at the time. Later, when Hayden came to and made noises about Nikolas being behind her shooting, Nikolas tried to fake his own death. He managed to succeed for a few years! So, Nikolas was very nervous when he saw Shawn coming towards him as he, his niece Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) and her domestic partner TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) sat talking. General Hospital viewers can count on the harder Shawn works trying to prove who shot Hayden, the harder Nikolas will work trying to prevent it!
