General Hospital Spoilers: Solar Eclipse Event Preempts GH On Monday

General Hospital spoilers and updates tease our favorite soap will be preempted on Monday, April 8 for historic coverage of the total solar eclipse.

This special programming is a joint effort of ABC News and National Geographic, both owned by Disney and it will be called “Eclipse Across America”.

General Hospital Spoilers – Why Is This Eclipse Special?

Even though there were eclipses with long paths across the United States recently, such as the one in October 24, 2023, that one was an annular eclipse, not a total eclipse like this one.

An annular eclipse shows a ring of light around the dark circle, which is the moon passing in front of the sun; the next one will be in 2041.

General Hospital Spoilers: Solar Eclipse Event Preempts GH On Monday

A total eclipse completely obscures the sun and in the path of totality, it will be completely dark outside-the last one was in 2017 and the next one will be 2044.

We are speaking of those that will be seen in the contiguous United States, although other parts of the world may experience either annular or total solar eclipses at other times.

Either way, if you choose to view the eclipse make sure you have certified eclipse viewing glasses so you will be able to see General Hospital when it returns on Tuesday!

GH Spoilers – Extensive Television Coverage

There will be extensive television coverage and “Eclipse Across America” starts at 2:00 pm EDT, the same time as GH begins airing on the East Coast.

The eclipse will last at least two hours and possibly longer, and viewers can expect coverage being reported from several different areas in the path of totality.

“The path of totality” means areas where the complete eclipse is seen and it becomes completely dark outside as the moon passes in front of the sun and obliterates its light.  Because this is a national event, this is a total preemption of the show and all viewing areas will be affected; there will be no new episodes anywhere on Monday.

Should a weather event preclude the eclipse coverage-unlikely, since it is such a long path, but possible-then a rerun of General Hospital will be shown in its place.

General Hospital Spoilers – No New Episode Until Tuesday, Including Streaming Services

Since this is a total preemption, there will be no new episode until Tuesday, and that includes streaming services such as the ABC app and Hulu.

Since it will be a total blackout type of eclipse it is considered a historic event and therefore ABC and National Geographic deemed it worthy of total coverage.

Obviously, other local programming that usually airs after General Hospital will be affected as well, although local stations may deem to air that later the same day.

Viewers will just need to be patient until Tuesday, when the next new episode of General Hospital will air. Those who record the episodes on online DVRs may want to check and adjust their taping schedules to make sure your GH episodes tape correctly.

Be sure to catch up on everything happening with GH right now. Come back here often for General Hospital spoilers, news, and updates.
