Through it all though Sonny has never wavered from being a family man, devoted to his wife and kids, and more recently his father.

Sonny and his dad Mike Corbin (Max Gail) have a complicated history. Mike was not the family man that Sonny is and he left his son to grow up in a shattered and dysfunctional home.
Years later these two reconnected and all was not rosy. It takes a lot of time to fix fractured relationships and these two have put in a lot of work to do just that.
So, the fact that Mike is not long for this world is something that Sonny refuses to accept.

Mike has Alzheimer’s and is now at Turning Woods, a memory care facility. Sonny will get a call informing him that Mike has had a seizure, a symptom which means he has taken a turn for the worse and the end is nearing.
Sonny continues to not hear what others have been trying to tell him for months—he simply does not want to let his dad go.

Yes, this is so heart wrenching. Maurice & Max are such talented actors. I have tissues ready for all their scenes.
Hell yes, my heart is always breaking for Sonny and Mike also Jason and Sam, Carly and Spinelli. For Sonny because I don’t want Mike to leave the show or Sonny’s life. Mike is like my father too and my father died of a massive heart attack in 12-29-2005. I know very well what that’s like so when GH started to casting Mike on the Show I became attached to him too. I always love Sonny, Carly, Jason, Sam and Spinelli. They all work as a team with Diane heading the legal team as Sonny’s lawyer. I often think of how Sonny would react should Mike leave the show. I know it’s going to be hard on him I just hope Carly can tear herself away from her Nelle business to be there for him and I hope this doesn’t come at a time when Sonny has to be busy taking care of business else. I know death do not come at a time that’s convenience for us, we just have to be ready. The writers who ever write this script better do it justify because Mike is special and loved by everyone who watches the show. I know Sonny will do a great job as well as the whole cast. Mike will be missed by everyone but most of Sonny and it’s going to be a sad day for all. I just wish there was some other way that Mike could stay on the Show longer, so he could get to know all his grandchildren. I just feel for Sonny and don’t want the script to written where someone would take advantage of him while he going this. I know Jason can handle things but it’s not like Sonny will be off the Show too.
Yes, this could really put Sonny into a tailspin…and so many families must deal with this horrible degenerative disease in a loved one in real life! I hope the story inspires viewers and helps them know they are not alone in this.
Sonny will have a hard time but it could be an opportunity for growth.
