General Hospital spoilers say that when it comes to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), it seems like critics of the soap are just over it.

And no, we are not talking about the character and who he is, but rather what he represents in the mob world in this fictional town of Port Charles.

General Hospital Spoilers: Critics Are Over Sonny For This Reason

While there are a lot of viewers who believe that General Hospital just won’t be the same the moment that Maurice Benard hangs up his hat and calls it a day on the soap, others think that Sonny has become very one-dimensional because of his mobster persona.

In other words, Sonny is facing backlash because he was never really was given a chance to develop what the writers have shown us over the years with his ties to the Port Charles mob culture. That, and everyone just seems to be over it at this point.

Clearly, GH fans had a lot to say about the matter on social media.

Some even commented with, “I won’t miss Sonny. I don’t like mob stories.Sonny is conceited, arrogant and cocky.Im not a fan of Sonny.GH tells the same mob stories over and over again.How many shoot outs can GH have on the docks?I’m tired of Sonny.”

Another critic wrote, “I would love for the show to be centered on someone who is not a criminal. Not someone who never makes mistakes or does anything wrong, but someone who is not the head of an organized crime ring.”

And then there was this comment as well: “If he ever hangs it up, the writers are going to have to do some serious heavy lifting to keep the show from feeling empty. It’ll be a huge gamble to see if they can pivot to someone or something that carries even half that weight.”
