GH spoilers reveal that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) didn’t cause Sonny’s amnesia, but she took advantage of it. Nina has spent months keeping Sonny’s identity a secret from him. It began as punishing Carly Corinthios (Laura Wright). Then, it evolved into Nina developing feelings.

However, she was living a secret fantasy life and didn’t see Sonny. Nina only saw “Mike,” who was a different person in her mind. It was Nina’s way of disassociating by separating the two identities and making them two different people, literally. That way, she didn’t have to acknowledge what she was really doing.

Once Sonny knows his name and identity, he will return to Port Charles. The timing is perfect because Carly and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) are about to get married. It’s an attempt to solve their problem with the Five Families. However, it is teased that the wedding could turn into an explosive catastrophe that could end in tragedy.

General Hospital spoilers reveal that Sonny will be able to take his name and reclaim his identity. However, reclaiming his life won’t be that easy. The life that Sonny left when he “died,” the one he remembers, no longer exists. Even if Carly and Jason’s wedding is stopped, their feelings have been rekindled. So, as much as Sonny and Carly would like to pick up where they left off, there is emotional baggage to deal with first.

Sonny’s youngest child doesn’t even remember him, so that will be a process to introduce the two. Then, it might take a while before Donna Corinthos (Ava Rose) can even trust him. To Donna, Sonny is a stranger.

On Instagram, Benard posted a photo of himself posing in a suit looking very much like the old Sonny. The actor wrote,

Of course, fans can’t forget about Nina. It was previously teased that feelings don’t just turn off because you want them to. So, it sounds like Sonny will be in a tug-of-war between hating Nina and loving her. At one time, Benard hinted that there could be a redemption story.
