Perhaps John was hanging by a thread, ala Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) and whisked away to a top-notch facility for care-the FBI could have set it up with the PCPD morgue. He could be in a coma, thanks to the swift actions of some trusted allies; there was that backup he mentioned before Sonny fired his shots.

Along with the curious fact he didn’t draw his weapon or wear a bulletproof vest, it didn’t quite make sense—he must have anticipated  Sonny could pull a gun on him. Yet even though it appeared that Agent Cates was finished, the truth in Port Charles often defies expectations.

General Hospital Spoilers – John Cates Being Alive Would Solve A Lot Of Problems

Adam J. Harrington has left GH, but there’s always a chance he could return if the writers decide to create a twist that reverses John’s fate. Many fans believe the show crossed a line when Sonny coldly killed Agent Cates.

While Sonny is typically portrayed as a charming mobster whom audiences can’t help but cheer for, this shocking turn of events has been tough for many to digest.

It would be great if the show could somehow undo Agent Cates’ tragic end and reconsider this storyline. Although it wouldn’t erase Sonny’s actions that night, it would at least mean he wouldn’t bear the weight of John’s permanent downfall.
