When Nina was booted out of her shared penthouse by hubby Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), she knew she could lean on Valentin. After all, he already knew her secret about what she had done behind her husband’s back — and on some level, he was probably waiting for it to fall apart so he could swoop in to pick up the pieces.

Valentin and Nina didn’t split up because they fell out of love. Quite the contrary, they were ready to seal the deal and get married all over again when the truth about Valentin’s betrayal came to light.

It took a long time for Nina to come to terms with the reality that he paid Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) to pretend to be Nina’s long-lost biological daughter, but in the end, Nina knew he had the best of intentions.

Still, she couldn’t forgive him enough to go back in time and make their marriage work. Valentin has long since apologized profusely and gone to hell and back to make amends, but that doesn’t mean he feels like he’s done enough to call it even.
