Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) returns to Port Charles and confirms devastating news for the Corinthos family – after spending some time with Mike herself, she realizes that Mike’s Alzheimers’ Disease is progressing and he is in the last stages. Viewers will recall that Stella had been working with Alzheimer’s’ patients as a social worker for General Hospital, who acted as a liaison between the treating physicians and the families of the patients and helped the families understand and cope with their loved ones’ degenerative processes associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Then she went on an extended vacation with a relative that she found through a genealogical search using her DNA, and so only comes back to Port Charles every now and then – but when she does, she always checks up on Mike! Mike’s body has already begun this degenerative process were in the last stages the body starts shutting down and the patient cannot control physical processes such as swallowing, and Mike has been unable to eat or drink for several days already, which is why Sonny had considered a feeding tube but got the understanding from his ailing father that he did not want the procedure.

Sonny and his family have known that the day would come when Mike’s body would begin shutting down, and now they must prepare themselves for his death, which appears to be getting closer and closer.

GH Spoilers – The Family Tries To Prepare For Mike’s Inevitable Death

Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Sonny sadly embrace, and upon hearing this update from Stella, the family tries to prepare themselves for Mike’s inevitable death. In the promo, we see Sonny, Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright), and a very sad Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) visiting with Mike, who is barely responsive and lying in bed, in his room at Turning Woods Memory Care.

Sonny has made sure that Mike is still able to listen to his favorite music, as his earbuds are in his ears, and the family tries to communicate with him. They all try to cope with the fact that Mike’s time is getting closer, and try to make the best of the time that they still have with him, whether he appears to be aware of their presence or not.

Sometimes patients with terminal diseases seem to rally and exhibit some improvement, only to die shortly afterward, and this may have been the case with Mike when he squeezed Sonny’s hand in response and had a good time with the horse when Sonny and Nurse Felix DuBois (Marc Samuel) took him to the horse barn at the track. Carly bends over and tells Mike that they love him so much, and Josslyn sits down and squeezes his arm, looking sad.

Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) also comes to visit, and sadness shows in his face as well. Sonny tells Mike he doesn’t know how long it’s going to be, but he’s right there with him.
