General Hospital Spoilers: What Is The Ice Princess Diamond? GH Story Explained

General Hospital spoilers and updates tease there has been a lot of talk about the Ice Princess diamond lately, with a necklace turning up with four stones from it. It is said that the diamonds cut from the original uncut diamond have a special power, being used to activate a weather machine Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos) invented.

General Hospital Spoilers – A Large Uncut Diamond Painted Black

The Ice Princess storyline began on GH in 1981, when Edward Quartermaine’s (most recently John Ingles) niece Alexandria Quartermaine (Renee Anderson) came to Port Charles. She began working at ELQ and hired Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) to do some detective work, wanting to find her competitors, the Cassadines. Luke, having come from working for Frank Smith (most recently Joe Cortese) was suspicious, but Alex assured him it was legit.

One day, Luke came home to find his apartment ransacked and was held at gunpoint by some Australian guy looking for information about “The Ice Princess.” It turned out to be Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) undercover as a financier and he explained what “The Ice Princess” was since Luke had no idea.

GH Spoilers – A Large Uncut Diamond Painted Black In A Statuette

Robert explained that “The Ice Princess” was a statuette, containing a large uncut diamond that was painted black, mounted on a pedestal; Luke agreed to help find it. To find it for the Quartermaines, Luke demanded a hefty sum, but Robert wanted it too and outbid them at $50,000 to find it for him. In 1981 $50,000 was more like $500,000 and Luke jumped at the chance; but when shipped to Port Charles Alex found it had been stolen when she went to claim it. Luke, Robert, and Alex were all after it but so was one of the Cassadine brothers, Tony Cassadine (Andre Landzaat) who also went by Tony Castle. Luke found that a woman named Emma Lutz (Merrie Lynn Ross) had it but thought it was ugly and donated it to Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee) for her charity art auction.

General Hospital Spoilers – The Search Is On

Luke, Robert, Alex and Tony all came up with a plan to steal it on the night of the art auction, someone rigging the lights to go out. When the lights came back on, Luke was gone and so was the Ice Princess but when he came back, he no longer had it. The search began for the missing Ice Princess, Alex teaming up with Tony and Luke teaming up with Robert; the statuette’s base contained a secret formula for a powerful weapon.

Alex and Tony got their hands on the Ice Princess and its formula, and Robert revealed to Luke, and Laura, now Laura Collins (Genie Francis) he was a WSB agent. Robert had to stop the statuette from falling into the wrong hands, and the three secretly boarded the Cassadine yacht, headed for Cassadine Island.

GH Spoilers: Recovery And Rescue

Luke, Laura and Robert sneaked onto Cassadine Island where they learned Mikkos planned to build a weather machine to make carbonic snow and blackmail world leaders with freezing the world. At that time, Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt) was also on Cassadine Island and dating Victor, and she was against the plan, joining with Robert, Luke and Laura instead.

Meanwhile, Mikkos had attacked Port Charles with the weather machine and it was declared a disaster area, and the four sneaked into the Cassadine compound, setting off an alarm. It set off a freezing mechanism from the weather machine, freezing Alex and Tony to death in the process, Robert and the others captured; Luke bargained with and tricked Mikkos. Luke started to give their location to the WSB during a radio transmission, angering Mikkos, the two scuffled and Mikkos fell and was frozen and Luke shut off the machine.
