According to Soaps in Depth, this is a very complicated situation. Even if Nikolas finds the codicil, he won’t automatically be able to reclaim his inheritance from Valentine. In fact, the publication turned to an expert in New York estate planning to explain exactly what Valentin and Nikolas’ rights are and what fans can expect as a result, too. To put it simply, Valentin could have grounds to contest the codicil, even if it turns up in Nikolas’ hands.

Nikolas is hoping to reclaim the Cassadine family fortune from his uncle by tracking down the codicil to his grandfather’s result. This, of course, will disinherit any of Mikkos’ children born out of wedlock. But here’s the thing: if the codicil was written in Greece, just like the updated will that designated Valentin as the rightful heir, what does that mean for Nikolas in New York?

Attorney Keren G. Birnbaum puts it this way, “It doesn’t matter that it’s a Greek will. A will is valid in New York state as long as it follows the basic requirements for will execution in New York. The codicil is a supplement or amendment to the will and needs to be executed in the same formal type of ceremony as a will. They are mostly out of practice at this point, because you may as well write a whole new will.”
