General Hospital spoilers and updates tease it seems strange for Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) to keep the Corinthos name if he hates Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Even the children, Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver) and Amelia Grace Corinthos (Nathan and Owen Ford) are Corinthos-why?
General Hospital Spoilers – Enquiring Fans Minds Want To Know
Fans have been lashing out over Michael keeping the Corinthos name and are confused why Michael hangs onto it if he hates his father so much. In April 2022 Michael himself explained, a scene the complainers apparently blocked out-he was tempted to use Quartermaine but didn’t, as he previously had when Avery Jerome-Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) was a baby. Michael decided he didn’t want others to think of Sonny, violence and crime when they hear the name and he wants to redeem it.
Michael’s goal is to make it like Sonny never existed, which is no easy task-his vision is to make the Corinthos name stand for something good, not something bad. He wants the association to the name make people think of something good – kind of like a new beginning, as in Amelia carrying on the name as the newest baby.
GH Spoilers – New Associations And Redemption
New associations with good things, people, and positivity means redemption of the Corinthos name and legacy, and that is what Michael says he’s trying to do. One thing that will happen that will be positive, once Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) is out of the woods with her leukemia is their marriage, which she wants right away. Willow plans to take the Corinthos name, not go by Quartermaine because Michael is going by Corinthos.
Plus, to revert to Quartermaine legally would take Michael doing a legal name change – Sonny adopted him as a small boy when he and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) married. Willow doesn’t have a lot of time left short a perfect bone marrow donor, so there wouldn’t be time for a legal change to Quartermaine even if he wanted to.
General Hospital Spoilers – Focusing On Redemption, Eliminating Corruption?
There is a valid point to be made that even as Michael is trying to redeem the Corinthos name, he’s corrupting it further by seeking to eliminate his father. How can he clear the Corinthos name if he’s totally eliminating Sonny and his mark on Port Charles and the world while still going by Corinthos?
His takedown plans, if not his plots are openly known – he is the one who took away Sonny’s legitimate businesses in Port Charles by stealing his customers.
But on the other hand, if he was doing this going by Quartermaine, he’d be sullying the reputation of that name. Perhaps even though he says he’s trying to redeem the Corinthos name and legacy, he’s really not, and will change back later.

Michael doesn’t hate Sonny, he hates the way he has behaved. If Michael truly wanted to be rid of all things Sonny, a name change would be the first thing he would do. If you hate someone so much why do want to assure that the Corinthos name be connected with good and not the mob implications it has had throughout the years. Writers are slipping on this story line and they can’t seem to decide which way Michael wants or needs to go. Michael has decided to drop the Corinthos name before, but always seems to return to his roots.
