General Hospital spoilers suggest Ava Jerome (Maura West) didn’t believe a word that came out of Esme Prince’s (Avery Kristen Pohl) mouth in the interrogation room at the PCPD. She finally saw the silver lining to the awful black cloud that has been hanging overhead for the last two years.

She and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) may never see real justice for what Esme has done to them and the people they love, but she can stick to Esme just this once — and with legitimate reason to.

Esme broke into Wyndemere, and Ava intends to make sure she pays the price for breaking the law. But could Ava’s intentions with Esme have more to do with her ex-husband — Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) — than it does her own selfish motives?

Nikolas stunned Ava when he appeared in the storage room of her gallery with his hand cupped over her mouth.

As she processed the fact that he was standing before her — unafraid of the charges against him should anyone spot him in Port Charles — she knew he must mean business to have come all that way to confront her in the flesh. But Ava doesn’t trust Nikolas’ intentions.

His obvious flirtation and claims that he never stopped loving her are bordering on manipulation. She knows every trick he carries up his sleeves, and she’s not ready to let him back into her heart anyway. Or is she?

The fact that Esme has just trespassed onto Ava’s property — and Ava holds all the cards to make Esme pay.

Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) might appreciate Ava’s willingness to hold Esme responsible for her latest faux pas, even though it pales in comparison to her being charged and tried for the heinous things she has done to Trina in the past.

Can Ava make her attempt to make Esme pay for harming Trina look like just that and nothing more without giving Nikolas the wrong idea that she still carries a torch for him?

The rumor mill is churning. Speculation abounds that Ava will only clue Nikolas in on her real intentions when she is certain that he’s in this for the long haul. If he wants to be with her, he’ll have to also come clean and face the charges against him.

Of course, he can hardly be held accountable if Esme keeps pretending she remembers nothing about her past — and it wouldn’t be convenient for her to imply otherwise.

Will this be the catch-22 that keeps Esme silent when speaking up is the only way to banish Nikolas from her and Ace’s lives?
